I think it was because he, too, couldn’t stand to see her bubble burst. I think this sick and twisted thought is why he sliced her head off in battle……to let her die a knight in battle, as she always wanted, and to spare her ever having to know she was fighting for a tyrant who could care less about his people. I may have read that in a spoiler. It’s sad. She was never a person to them. She was just someone that gave them a valiant reason to live and die.

No, no one had ever explained to her. I hate the fact that Khalid (after knowing that she is the person who he had been killed with his own hands) acting like he loved her in past. If he ever had felt love towards her,he should have already explained everything to her to make her understand...But whyyyyy???

From what I've gathered.. It seems like the church wants her to either support them or go down. Really despicable. That priest (forgot his name) is definitely in awe of Shuri. I hope she successfully pulls him from his high horse.
On the other hand, we see that while Johannes was somewhat delirious from his illness, he really cared for his family. I liked how you can feel the melancholy in his point of view.
The church is on Shuri also because years ago she decided to take an initiative (during Christmas) and entered politic and her action dictated by her knowledge of the future was in constrast with the church. They planned to grew the malcontent in the people by being the one resp for the charity (i think) while the nobles as usual didn't want to give away their money... Thus the church would have an easier way to overthrow the royal family. They setting the Prince to fail too... Plus the Lions (idk how to write Shuli's family surname lmao) are the richest of the nobles .. :|
