Nope, it's scary stuff. The big issue is that so many don't know/understand what's going on. A lot of people buy into the surface logic presented by conservative groups pushing for it. A few years ago I wouldn't have thought Americans as a whole would go for something so blatantly against our Bill of Rights, but then somehow Trump got elected, so anything seems possible.

Addressing your statement about how most yaoi is about straight or one straight/one gay: that's kind of the point of yaoi. It's not meant to be a realistic portrayal of gay relationships. Homosexuality in yaoi is a metaphor for sexual awakening. That's why the straight or straight gay pairings are more common.
