Honestly I’m not someone that gets into many romantic manga but this is honestly just a great read the characters are actually well written and the story is actually soo dam good. I need more please god let this manga go to completion. And I’m hoping for a spinoff where the kids go on an adventure to the sea or something because there definitely my favourite characters

I heard that he kills the spillers coming and resurrects them

The not resurrecting them in this case would be the meaningless thing. The thematic element here is not the actual death, but the fact that Rimuru is willing to let go of whatever shreds of humanity he has left and completely discard his former life in order to save his friends. Rimuru has always been a rather reluctant participant in the events of the story so far. Things kind of happened to him when he would rather they not, but this time, he is being proactive in order to save his friends and correct the wrong he did by being half-hearted in his commitment, regardless of what he has to sacrifice to do so. It's an echo of when he gave his life to save his subordinate and it serves to bring his character full circle, kind of implying that, despite being re-incarnated as a monster, and having all this new power and servants now, at his core he is still basically the same nice guy willing to go the extra mile for the people who depend on him and do it selflessly.
If he did all that, and risked all that, and then he still couldn't bring them back, then the whole thing would be truly meaningless.

    Nicely put!

you do know the second he brings them back it will be like shouting from the mountains there are no consequences dont worry nothing will ever really have weight .... I think the story will have so much more wait if he tries to bring them back but in the end he can't that will be way more powerful and will be a good chance for his character to grow into someone more complex .... just imagine when the war arc starts and he has to make life and death choices however if resurrection is something establish those choices don't matter.

I'm sorry but I just can't agree with what your saying ... I believe that by not having them revived It will be a even more powerful way to show him that he was wrong in his behaviour of been too passive and letting things happen. This will teach him that you need to more protective when you are a leader (have people you want to protect). It can also go with your idea of him trying to keep his humanity character arc by making him have to make complex choices that put his humanity into questioning. Things like going to war and making sacrifices that better the majority and hurts some others. You can try and change my mind if you can tell me a more powerful character growing method than the loss of what they love most.

I think the problem is that you are trying to adjudicate a thematic depth to this story that it has nothing to do with its core. This is a happy-go-lucky story. It is NOT a serious story. You have tsundere dragons, elves operating brothels, for god's sake. Up until now the only actual death of a speaking character we've had is when Rimuru killed the leader Direwolf. Think about it and you'll realize that is not about character development but a thematic digression: Shizue was supposed to die but Rimuru ate her (ergo not actual "death"). Orc Disaster was supposed to die but Rimuru ate him (ergo not actual "death"). The Phobio guy and the whole Caribdis incident, nobody died. The kids of the school were supposed to die, but Rimuru saved them. Rimuru himself died at the beginning but he got re-incarnated into an arguably more powerful, better form. Death itself is NOT a thematic point in this series, and pretending it can be from now on is going against the entire development so far. I will admit that we start to see character death's subsequently from now on but, still, they are not thematic elements in the plot. They are going to be mainly story elements, not affecting the character development whatsoever. I haven't yet read all the light novels, but in what I've seen so far, it's unrealistic to expect death to start meaning an inmense lot now or to abjudicate a deeper psychological impact to it, when the foundations of the series is not based on that. I agree with you that loss is a catalyst to character development, but not when it clashes when the thematic line a particular story has followed through to the point of being dissonant. Even the coming action of Rimuru becoming a Demon Lord (an unarguably dark development by all accounts), at its core will be address in the same fun, light-hearted fashion the series has been following so far. This will not become Overlord, or Re-Zero or Shield Hero. It will still be Slime. Expecting otherwise I think is the main problem with your view.

It takes away from consequence Fatcow

What consequences are you talking about??? The realizations of his failures as a leader/king of a nation? We already saw that part as he kept on asking Great Sage questions that cannot be answered. And his response is perfectly normal for that perfect situation. It's not about their death, it's that the people he cared about was hurt, and he reacted in a way everyone else would.

When a love ones die because of unnatural circumstances, denial and self-hate would be first on the list of reactions... and, if there's some kind of chance, the next would be wanting them back, thus doing anything and everything to bring them back to life, even if it means selling your soul to a demon.

So, resurrecting them isn't that bad. It's one of the consequences of Rimuru's feelings. Death is not the only way to make a person realize the consequences of their actions, just the act of seeing the people you care about getting hurt because of your choices is enough to do that.

Plus, this is a fantasy story, and on top of that, THE MAIN CHARACTER WAS REINCARNATED BY A ROBOTIC VOICE... xD Resurrection shouldn't be your concern right now... you should ask if he was actually transported into a game or if he was already in a game. xD hahahaha

    Moth July 27, 2019 6:29 am

Not gonna happen. The story is made already. The novel is finished. Stop your whining and suck it up. And no, nothing wrong with him resurrecting them. If he doesn't do that, he won't become the demon lord and the plot won't move. Try to appreciate the author more.

But you can't say that shizue did not die because just because you have absorbed something doesn't mean it lives through you in this story. Because her death really did mean a lot to him that was the hole driving force behind him meeting the kids in a way of fulfilling shizue's wishes (that's what I think). And also death is something that's this story needs to be one of its biggest consequences because it's all about leadership and management of a society/country and I think by removing the threat of death you are removing the gravity and responsibility that rimuru

Has what's the point in anything if the worst case scenario after making a bad decision is that everyone has a bite of an upset expression for like 2 chapters or that bad decisions loses the lives of people that will show that he needs to change learn do things he might not like to keep people safe. I don't like the argument of it's already written so just deal with it ... course bat man vs. Superman was already filmed and that was still a bad movie (ps didn't get to spell check

I "know" about how it feels to have someone you care about die yeah of course you will do anything to bring them back I've cross lines you never thought about but after all that you have to come to terms that death is a part of life and that you can't just return them back. Accepting this will always lead to growth good or bad.

I can't understand what you mean when you say when they die from unnatural circumstances because your making it sound like there deaths where some sort of disease or somethin that he had no control over when I think that he can put most the blame on himself for been so comfortable and passive In his role leaders it's not like he didn't know that there were people out there that would want to see his city and people burn but instead of setting up defences that can help like a standing army or hell simple background checks when entering the city he was off in a different city play pretend with some kids he has not real connect too.
