I really don’t understand how someone can read a story and see it as real. This isn’t reality; these aren’t real people. It’s strange to apply the lens of real-world problems directly to fiction. It’s fine to reflect on a story and consider how such issues would play out in reality, but claiming that the story itself is about pedophilia, or that this fiction is criminal, is an absurd and flawed idea. By that logic, the same outrage would have to apply to characters who kill, for example. We know it’s a story, we know what’s right and wrong, but in fiction this becomes irrelevant because it doesn’t actually exist — it’s disconnected from reality. This applies to any fictional work. If something disturbs you, then simply avoid reading it; that’s what I do when certain themes bother me personally, because everyone carries their own emotional baggage. Beyond that, manga, movies, and books are ways of exploring human imagination and shouldn’t be bound by the constraints of real-world logic. Just read what you want and move on with your lives.
