I read BL (and BG, with the occasional GL) as a form of escape. Fictional love is messy, toxic, unrealistic and impossible, and that’s exactly the point. Reading lets me step out of reality for a while and yearn for something exaggerated, intense, and emotionally consuming. It gives me distance from my own problems and space to feel things safely through characters who love far too hard.

When I rate a story, I look at the whole package. Art matters. Plot matters. Smut matters. Chemistry matters most. Writing quality is important, and yes, even the translation affects my enjoyment. A bad translation can ruin a good story, and a good one can elevate it. It’s not always fair to the author, but it does shape the reading experience.

Characters are everything to me. I’m drawn to possessive, obsessive, jealous lovers who are unapologetically devoted. I love characters who fall first and harder, especially when the top is already gone and the other one doesn’t stand a chance. What I can’t stand is a main character with no spine. If a character is unrealistically stupid, passive, or incapable of thinking for themselves, I lose interest fast.
