controversial opinion coming up.... yall this is the most fucked up shit i read so far and i'm amazed at the quality of the storytelling. i've had stockholm syndrome when i was young and this is the most accurate depiction of it. the metaphorical panels, hiro's complex, airi's dependence even after cutting his limbs off... in real life a husband like yuu barely exists. but it was a dream of mine. this is fiction but the timeline is very accurate. yuu being so understanding and devoted... also airi coming to terms with opening up... and even author somehow made me feel bad for hiro temporarily (he needs to die tho. fuck him seriously) ...that's how good this is. even the PTSD attacks are really accurate. something as small as getting invalidated (like airi was going thru) sends people into spirals of despair but its often overlooked. i also liked the representation of hiro fighting with his childhood self... the small bit of innocence he has left keeping him from hurting airi further.
the way author wrote this is just wow. re-living those themes isn't super awesome but it felt relieving to see an illustrated version of what it looks like to suffer stockholm syndrome for so long, and the aftermath of living with PTSD from childhood trauma. it felt oddly validating lol.
so sad i won't see the ending to this. i was really looking forward to see what choice airi would've made in the end. but i can confirm this much... it's a given she's still clinging onto hiro. in a world where you are alone and isolated and only your abuser shares your deepest scar... it rewires your nervous system entirely.
