That ending was so shit. What do you mean FL and ML didn't talk to each other for a long time because of a misunderstanding? Isn't ML supposed to be smart, he never once thought that maybe he may have given her the wrong address? Or something has gone wrong with the mailing? Like hello?? If my boyfriend went AWOL, I'd be deathly worried and will do everything I can to make sure I heard back from him. ML pretty much just acted like he had no brain and couldn't do anything about a situation that could've very well have been fixed so easily.
Don't even get me started on him entertaining the other girl - he even admits that he was swayed by her, that she's his type, even when he rejected her, he says "I can't accept your feelings YET" He 100% would've dated her had FL not shown up. Smh. The reunion between FL and ML was so rushed too, the author pretty much gave up on this and just felt like they wanted to end it. Such a shame because this was actually a really good read until the end. We don't even get side stories?? No updates on their friends??? Augh.
I get that he has his own reasons and he's likely doing this for his own children's sake, but my god, I can't fathom the idea of abandoning your own kids and on top of that, even starting a new family and life without them? The way that he never even intended for his daughter to meet his sons..just cruel.
He makes the point to the grandpa, that one day he'll realize that he's right - that he's made the right choice. But I wonder if these words will end up biting him back? Does he even know about Chirae's condition?
Side note, shout out to the grandpa for stepping up and taking care of the boys.
I really hate the direction the author went with Yuu's character. She could've just stayed as the platonic friend, but the author just had to go there and make her fall in love with Maki. I understand wanting to create drama and tension, but this just wasn't it. What's worse is that this whole arc made up a majority of the story (her feelings start growing from Volume 4, until it's confronted in Volume 7 and officially closed on Volume 8) - it literally felt like Yuu had become the main character, and even in volume 8, the author focused more on Yuu's perspective than Umi, who is the female lead.
The only good thing is that Maki doesn't at all waver - he remains solid in his feelings for Umi. And their relationship only gets stronger. But this doesn't make the entire arc any less annoying to read, and what makes it more frustrating is how most of the characters just kind of coddled Yuu? She's the main character, the "sun" in their eyes, and so hence, she can never do wrong in their eyes. Umi, especially, just entertains Yuu with all this. She of course, let's out her real thoughts, frustrations and feelings about it but in the end, Umi caters to Yuu's feelings and let's her do whatever she wants so Yuu is allowed to experience her first love. Umi even came up with the stupid idea of having Maki and Yuu go on a date together, which in the end became a triple date because Yuu wanted the date to be with herself, Maki and Umi. I just...I'm baffled at this. I don't even know why this was entertained by any of the characters? Then at the date, at Yuu's request, she and Maki go on the ferris wheel alone together while Umi just waits for them alone. Yuu then confesses and gets quickly rejected by Maki. You would think it ends there right?...
Well, NO, because we move on to volume 8 where yet again, we're focusing on Yuu's lingering feelings for Maki. They go on a school trip, and just as Maki and Umi are about to go on their date, Yuu interrupts and asks to have a few minutes to talk with Maki alone. The characters, of course, don't know how to say NO to her so Maki goes to have a talk with her, while his own girlfriend waits by herself. During this talk, Yuu AGAIN tries to shoot her shot and asks the golden question "If you had met me first before Umi, would you have dated me?" Maki, of course, rejects this. But what bothers me about this is that Yuu's ALREADY been rejected and at this point, she's well aware of how serious Maki and Umi are (they exchanged promise rings to which Yuu has seen and is aware of), and yet Yuu still can't help herself. This is her own best friend's BOYFRIEND, by the way. She's ASKING her own best friend's boyfriend, had things gone differently would he have looked her way instead of Umi. I'm sorry, no matter how wholesome the author tries to make this out to be, this is straight disrespectful of Yuu to do especially when Umi has been nothing but been over-caring for her feelings.
I'm just not a big fan of unnecessary second leads and pushing the whole "I MUST confess so I can move on with my life", and it's unfortunate that the author used this exact trope with their story. Sorry for the long rant, but I LOVE this manga and I especially loved that there were no love triangles or second leads that suddenly grow feelings for the main leads. So, it's sad to read the LN to find out that they've gone with this direction. I'm hoping the manga changes this but I doubt it.
I feel sad for the detective's wife. Also, looks like the detective almost lacks in empathy - as he said, he doesn't feel anything for the baby they've lost and even feels bothered by his wife's depressive state, rather than feeling sadness for her AND him. Though, this does confirm that the connection between the detective and FL will be tied to his wife.
An interesting point is that it looks like his wife may have been murdered? Given by the phone call, looks like she was being followed in the street leading to a car crash. I wonder who "the man" was, and it's likely that the detective will find this out and perhaps, the man may also have a tie to Jaeyun's current murder case? I think this is intentional on the author's part. And maybe that's why the detective feels remiscent of his wife whenever he sees FL. Whatever is tying the wife and FL together may be related to whoever "the man" is.
FL is quite literally the epitome of self-sabotage. It's clear that she only heard half of that conversation, but she decides to doom over it completely. She doesn't even TRY to clear this up with ML nor doesn't even explain why exactly she's upset or what she's insecure about. And when ML shows up, she doubles down, lashes out at him, doesn't let him talk then ends things one-sidedly. FL is letting her insecurities take over, she's twisting ML's words and actions, ultimately sabotaging this good "relationship" she has. I know they're young, but seeing characters act like this makes me want to pull my hair every time.
Exactlyyyyy. Being young makes us naive, not fucking stupid. They clearly had some trust in each other right? Why did she decide his entire opinion on their relationship with a clearly misunderstood statement????? Like if she just pauses to think she will realise that she is over complicating his answers to suit her thought process of him breaking up with her!!!! Where is her trust???? Her considerate attitude???? Huh???
Yeah, I'm not a fan of her being completely inconsiderate of ML and his feelings of all this. I understand getting caught up in your own emotions and being overwhelmed with insecurities, but FL was out of hand here. She, herself, even admits she's wrong on many things about this but still continues to run away in the end. Her pride got in the way, and atp, she'd rather protect herself from a "rejection" that she made up in her head. This was a major fumble on FL's end.
That detective definitely dropped his wallet on purpose so he can have an excuse to see FL again. The author is intentionally creating some sort of progression between the two, but I don't think it will go romantically though.
I personally think the detective will be her saving grace, IF the plot twist is that FL isn't the actual murderer. Right now, the relationship between FL and ML is deteriorating. ML is already convinced she's the murderer and is also becoming uncomfortably possessive of her. FL, in turn, is feeling incredibly suffocated by ML. We're always seeing doubts from both ends whether this marriage is right for them. I think, were nearing the inevitable end of this relationship. ML might even testify against her - his condition right now seems very unstable and weak, I can see him going against her. With no one on her side, the detective will be her only solace.
I believe the detective has a wife who passed away. FL reminds him of his wife, and because of this connection, I think the detective will help FL. As he investigates further, he'll probably find evidence that FL is innocent. I'm thinking Jaeyun's politician father is the real culprit to the murder. FL will be framed of the murder which is why we see her in jail at the start. But I think the story will continue further, with the detective fully solving the case and proving FL's innocence. Story will end with her out of prison, no longer with ML, and will start anew.
Yeah, especially after they went through, I was rooting for a happy end for these two. But seeing how fragile their relationship is right now (and we do know she ends up in jail), it's looking like we're not getting a happy end for this couple.
I also have an alternative theory that ML may actually have been the murderer and FL is covering for him. But I'll wait for the next couple chapters to see how this conversation between the detective and FL develops

I just know Aira's ass was squealing on the inside when the barber called Okarun her boyfriend. Homegirl didn't even deny it. She's definitely going to start calling him her boyfriend from now on. Oh god
