Soo I haven't finished this yet so I can't really tell you about the ending. But to answer your question about why they treat him like that. Basically the story itself is told from an very unreliable point of view. The people were actually never mc's friends to begin with like mc thinks. The main bad person ( haeyoung) is a psychopath. Tho he is written acting more like a sociopath and a narcissist, but the key fact is that he is physically incapable of feeling empathy due to being born with psychopathy. Because mc has severe psychological issues due to trauma from early in the life that were never handled he was "perfect victim" for haeyoung who is due to psychopathy constantly seeking stimulation to the brain. So he manipulates mc years and years feeding him all kinds of delusions and making him mentally attached to him basically treating him like a pet. Due to this manipulation mc fell in love with him and due to the already existing trauma he very easily submits to him sadly. Then there is taekyum and the third guy who's name i cannot remember now sorry. They are both also being manipulated by the psycho but in a very different way than mc. Taekyum seems to be written as a narcissist atleast to me. This means that his ego is very fragile and he seeks to feed it with many delusions. He also feels the need to be in a very superior position and since he kinda sees the psychos position compared to mc he kinda mirrors his actions too. The psycho sees this and manipulates him too tho the narcissists thinks he is the one in control. Though this shatters a bit after the narcissists starts to see how badly the psycho is treating mc so he "saves" him, but we see also here that this only feeds the narcissists ego and need to be in control. It is also good to mention that the psycho has manipulated the other 2 to believe kinda that mc likes what they are doing. Though it is not very convincing it is a escape for them to relieve the guilt they experience from the horrible things they do to mc that started due to manipulation. Then the third guy. What i see now that he actually is in love with mc and did not want to abuse him but once again due to manipulation he gave in and he is now battling also with many issues due to guilt andd he believes that it is ok because mc likes it due the delusion that the psycho fed them. It also does not help that the mc is in extreme survival state and the 2 are too blind to see that so it just feeds the delusion. This is very very simply put and based on my own observations since i haven't read the novel but I hope that this gives you and maybe some other readers atleast some explanation why things are happening. What I see is that the writing is very deep and very intentional, but it is very very overpowered by all the disturbing things happening.

From what I understand: It was implied that the parents had something to do with the inhuman project that produced the doctor so he was using it to make Mr. Ji feel some type of way about why they even died..

Then for what happened to the doctor, if you mean at the end, the research team used his methods against him to target only him instead of all the other Guides so he'd die. If you mean in general, I think what happened was an inhumane experiment to create an Expert that resulted in him.. He as a person was a little off in the head, so whoever his original Guide was didn't want him and when he came to find him after whatever promise they made, he saw him with someone else and killed him, taking over his body by implanting his memories in it.. (This is why I assume he has the whole thing about "Guides that break their promises)

At the end where Ji seems to suddenly be fixed and Taehun says he doesn't know why but he's happy, it was implied before that Hansol gave his match rate back to Tae when he died, the " gift" from the doctor's son or creation or whatever they said.. So ig Tae was able to satiate him at the last second...

So TLDR; the parents were involved with the doctor's creation somehow (I wasn't clear on what way but I could probably read it again to figure it out), Tae got the match rate back from Hansol when he died from disobeying the doctor so he didn't have to kill him I guess, and because of the returned mat h rate Ji was coaxed (very quickly) out of corruption


This def could have written better toward the end, it seemed a bit rushed in a way
