All the discourse around "this is problematic because people worshipped these gods thousands of years ago" is kinda hilarious when you take into account how many hades and persephone "dark romance" retellings got popular just from booktok alone.

Personally, I find the art gorgeous here and I don't think the story frames the intimate violence in a positive light either... but to each their own, of course.

It's 'cause people love to selectively pearl clutch over the dumbest shit lol

Like, Lore Olympus not only had rape in it, but the creator even disrespected the mythology by saying she wasn't going to include any of the incest details that are even important to the mythology 'cause it's "icky."

Disney and Marvel actively woobify mythos and religious figures to turn them into superheroes or villains and no one even cares that they do.

This is only being targeted 'cause a.) people want the brownie points for saying "rape bad" or b.) they want the brownie points for claiming this is racist ((when it's not)). It's performative activism atp and people who don't know how to just stop reading something they don't like and moving on.

Honestly, I'm reading this for the toxicity and Painter of the Night vibes. The second male lead would be fun in a wholesome historical, but here he's boring af. Hopefully we get back to the drama soon before I fall asleep.
