I really understand where the distrust is coming from. Even a grown adult can become victims of trauma and abuse, even the most emotionally mature ones can be affected. Don't blame them for resenting their past abusers and the people who stood by and let it happen. No one is immune to pain.

I'm sorry about that... But what I mean is that there are really times that you can't confess to someone and expect them to give you a chance right off the bat. Some people need time and some people really don't think they can return your feelings at all. We have to get rid of that expectation on other people and push them to believe that just because you love them they will eventually love you back. That's an extremely hard task you're giving them and it's usually not up to you when they make their choice.
