I get what you're saying, but as a guy who at one point was straight in his life. It's really about finding the right person, and it's also about being interested. Because you have to remember, he wasn't even dating seriously, and he was playing around with people's feelings, so im not saying you're wrong. I am saying that, it's very different in this bl to me at least. Just because if he really wasn't gay, you're right he wouldnt be doing these things. But he hasn't really found himself, and he is the first guy he's dated. But also bl and your isn't just about being gay, it's also about finding yourself, and being bi as well. I think it's a good representation of both. Me thinks

this is a rly good perspective, u have a point!! it does work in the context of this story if u think abt it in this way. I guess what i find a bit sad is how often bls just kinda make it a point to tell their characters are straight despite it being essentially a gay story. I love stories about self discovery, and i dont even think characters need to be labeled at all (labels can be unhepful irl too)! its just a bit disappointing when authors feel the need to treat the "being gay/bi" part as if its dirty, and do not bother to make their characters grow past this mentality ever.

Once again, I totally get what you're saying, the trope is very much over used and done wrong, but I just wanted to put into perspective that, not every trope does it wrong. And sometimes all somebody needed was to figure out the right person.
And yeah, the "I'm only gay for you." Is especially very harmful, but I think people also do it, because of the other person, dating a "straight man" because of angsty reasons, if we were talking, manga/ trying to make things interesting. ( For lack of better analogy)
