Valeta (FL) is genuinely strong and self sufficient. It’s really refreshing to see a FL who is not helpless. Reinhart, the ML is fucking CRAZY about Valeta, which might steer some of you away, but he d literally worships her. The way he makes her out to be his entire world, the literal apple of his eye, and changes for her made me melt. He doesn’t hurt her, he literally heals her. One thing I will say is Valeta’s obliviousness to Reinhart’s obvious feelings of love and devotion (albeit contorted) gets very annoying at times. Valeta can’t understand human emotions as a result of complex trauma, and Reinhart doesn’t understand them because he’s not human. But they both find things out together. Their shared trauma is written EXTREMELY well. I really appreciate their depth and complete understanding of each other. They really do complete each other in their own fucked up ways. Their love is just so pure but so twisted at the same time. It’s really something else. On a side note, fuck the emperor, fuck Miloyd, fuck that one eyed magician with the staff, and fuck FUCK FUUUUUCK Valeta’s dad. It’s insane that a dead man haunted the narrative as much as he did. Which is why I praise this story so much. I feel like a lot of authors write in trauma but don’t truly understand how it affects people. This author realistically portrayed trauma and how it absolutely devastated these two individuals. Seeing them both learn how to love and how to feel human made me genuinely cry my ass off. This is a very good read. I recommend it SO much.
