Well it is fiction, so don’t really think it’s supposed to be realistic, but to answer your question: yes, they clearly are allergic… I don’t have a problem with no “role” changing because, well, sometimes it makes sense for the characters (as in, they don’t want to switch). But the fact that strict roles tend to be a rule, and when the desire to change IS voiced it often gets laughed off or dismissed, it does come off that way.
