(Be prepared for a yappachino ahh paragraph)
I feel the need to let this out because I find it a bit better to voice my opinion on a story than letting it sizzle any longer. Let me make this CLEAR, I'm not gonna shit or wish death on the author for their creative decisions even if I don't exactly agree with them. At the end of the day it's the author's story and characters.
Now that we've gotten that out of the way
I have a few gripes with Su-ah and the direction his character is going. I don't have to mention the obvious bad things that he did as the commentors have already pointed that out.
Instead, I want to critique the way his backstory was implemented into the story. In truth, it feels very odd in the way that it is placed in the story as the timing couldn't been worse.
I find it a hard time to truly empathize with Su-ah's current self as obviously child exploitation is an awful thing to go through and it's especially not surprising that he'd of course be disappointed about his secondary gender.
But my issues with him as a character still stands as all of what he did against Juhyeok kinda mirrors with the way he was probably viewed and objectified as, an omega. Yes, you could argue that Su-ah cares about Juhyeok but it often times feels like he doesn't care enough about Juhyeok to at least be considerate of his well-being. When I read his inner monologues about Juhyeok I find it be more remoniscent of entitlement and obsession to Juhyeok's body. It's like his personhood isn't even a thought in his mind until Juhyeok beats it to him.
I get that Su-ah is supposed to be the possessive and yandere-adjacent male lead and I'm not yucking on anyone's yum. I fully understand that liking how a problematic character is written does not reflect on irl morals, but I feel conflicted about how the narrative is trying to frame his behavior or even downplay it at times and how he gets out of things scot-free without any real long-lasting consequences.
Maybe it's feels more unsettling for me because Su-ah doesn't take in the consideration of Juhyeok's dreams and goals and how difficult it must be to be in a field probably oversaturated with alphas whilst being an omega, he doesn't seem to understand or even see his reality will always be at a disadvantage for him even though his backstory should at least make him understand why Juhyeok is the way he is and why he cares about his career, but with chapters like chapter 19-20, he feels like any other alpha that wants to baby-trap the MC in favor of their on selfish gain. Juhyeok is biologically tied to Su-ah and it wasn't even by choice, the whole scenting thing strips any agency Juhyeok had over their relationship. As a reader i feel more convinced that Su-ah loves the idea of the promise he made with him rather than Juhyeok himself.
Anyways I think this is another case of a "I'm reading this for the side couples" type of manhwa, since I find their potential to be interesting and I like the artstyle. I'll let this marinate until it's the side couples turn ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
This THISSS.. Thank u so much u put like everything I wanted to say in words. But I'm like too dumb to string a coherent sentence together lmao.
But I agree I think we've all seen this type of character in yaoi for a long time.. but still the timing of his backstory and the MCs being buddy buddy after... Whatever the fuck happened last is a little weird at least.
I think one thing we all can agree on is that were reading this for the DILF and whoever he is gonna end up with.
Goodness you put the words PERFECTLY. I've always thought that su-ah's constant "marking(?)" with the scent is very invasive, if not borderline harassment, especially since Juhyeok have said again and again not to do so.
And that wasn't the only thing that bothers me, it's the fact that he keeps ignoring Juhyeok's Nos and Don'ts, all in the name of he did it because he "love" Juhyeok and that he was only "trying to protect" him. That's.. not what love is? And is it really protection for Juhyeok, or it's just to stroke his own possessiveness ?
I get that Juhyeok is not the brightest and what he asked for was kinda silly, but I thought it was fitting. Su-ah was never really considerate enough to care about him as a person (rather than as someone he's obsessed with, if that makes sense), so why would he care for Su-ah other than for his.. stuff, right? Yet, Su-ah gets offended. Ironically, this is what Juhyeok had to deal with every single day with the scenting thing. But Su-ah couldn't care less about that.
Being protective doesn't mean you have to be inconsiderate or invade the boundaries of the person you're trying to protect, what the hell.
I feel like some of the commenters aren't understanding that this world's setting is placed in an apocalypse where food and medicine is scarce at worst and limited at best. Yes, they do have a doctor that could probably do a check up with the son but ultimately there isn't ultimately there isn't much that can't be done. The child was chronically sick and in a normal world with better conditions he could've probably gotten help, but this isn't that.
Where medicine is a valuable resource in a zombie apocalypse, it's understandable (and cruel) to keep those kinds of treatment reserved for the ones that actively participate in the community to keep their village alive and going. Giving the son the medicines willfully would have been a gamble for their village's rate of survival and probably shortened ther shortage of medical supplies.
For what we know, the child could've have still ended up sick and not be able to participate with gathering the supplies and being a protective member of the village which would risk the lives of the village.
Guwon is the leader of this village (as we know of, there could be a darker source at play). He bares the responsibility of the livelihood of the entire village which includes the supplies the "Hounds" are hunting and gathering along with the insiders the village folks are storing, he also is responsible for the children (newly found) education center where he himself has to monitor what is being taught to them, but that's a bit difficult seeing as he isn't on the same educational level as the adults in the village as he takes private lessons from the teach to keep up what is at best a grade school level of education.
It's obvious that he isn't human and therefore isn't capable of understanding basic set of morals or ethics as he doesn't seem to remember anything else prior before the apocalypse came to be. It looks as though he was placed on to this leadership role despite him lacking in a few departments of qualifying to be one.
Guwon seems to think that brute force is what keeps the community in tact and takes that basic understanding into any kinds of situation where he has to uphold the leadership role without fully understanding the more ethical parts of it.
One of the villagers mentions that they had history with theft within the community before and it costed them the lives of one of their scavengers (The Hounds). Guwon seems to learn from experience and if we take into account and that the village has basically Frankenstein's monster for a leader that only seems to learn from experience and has consistently used brute force to fix any complicated issues that might disrupt the harmony of the way the village operates. It's understandable that Guwon will use the one thing he's good at. His brute.
The trial also seems to use a democratic way of giving out punishment, so it further proves that Guwon isn't the brain behind what goes and what doesn't with the rules. He takes public voiting as the nominator for what will happen.
I feel like there should be a discussion surrounding pearl boy and depictions of SA. For one, I understand that these characters work for the Yakuza and are obviously not suppose to be the pinnacle of morally good but I feel that you can have tension or a character doing bad things without resorting to SA or confinement.
I have read Pearl boy in it's entirety and can say that I'm conflicted with how this author represents trafficking and r*pe. In the original story it tries to show how horrified and hopeless Jooha feels around his situation but I always had a problem with how it often times mishandles the depictions of it, as it never really dives deep into the psychological aftermath of trauma of having Jooha trafficked.
At times I'm confused in whether the author wants me to feel for the character or simply be somehow feel aroused by it due to its angling and facial expressions.
At worst the depictions seems exploitative or at best it's there for shock value and therefore it feels unnecessary to even have SA scenes, the side story is no different and it feels like the scene with Yuta is there for mere shock value rather than have anything of substance to give in the story.
Idk I wanted to just air out my feelings around this chapter a bit ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭.
Tbh as someone who never finished pearl boy this side story is doing pretty well so far. Yuta seemed unhinged from chapter 1, and it's no surprise given him implied backstory. I don't think any of the scenes so far were for shock value cuz I was expecting this just seeing how he keeps calling him "san" even after being told he doesn't need to.
Obviously it's written with erotic intent cuz most people of the audience just don't care about the psychological stuff lol and want smut. It's kinda like the hentai metamorphosis, even though it was a horribly sad story with good story telling, it's clear as day that each scene was dragged out for its purpose of being a hentai.
I'll be real and say that.........................................................................................................................................
.............................
I don't really like Teasung (▰˘◡˘▰). I really didn't like his demeanor during sex as it felt as though he was the only one getting something out of it, like how he's so rough with Heabom and never seems to have an initial thought of "Hey....maybe I should listen to my partner setting a clear boundary before I do anything". I don't necessarily like this because it feels as if when he actually stops and thinks about it and feels bad, the narrative has to immediately do some kinda of mental gymnastics by having Heabom say "it's okay" despite the implications of doing said act to remove any guilt of him constantly doing things he was explicitly asked.......
Anyways....rant over (=・ω・=)
I hate that this is probably going to be a reason for horseung defenders to justify any of that man's actions throughout the entirety of the manhwa. I hate that horseung is given this savior complex by the story as if he isn't a perpetrator himself. I absolutely hate that horseung is endgame and that most of his abusive tendencies are so brushed off. I diabolically hate that it's only Dan that's truly suffering from not having the privilege to have an alternative way of living without the sheer STENCH of horseung whilst all horseung gets is a CRUMB of what he deserves....((Sorry for the rant( ̄∇ ̄"))
I don't like the main couple of this manhwa or mainly, I can't seem to like Chunwoo's character, even if I read the story through his perspective.
Throughout the story, I think I might have been able to like his character for the complexities of being in love with a man you're in a situationship with, I might have even felt bad for him. But the reason I simply can't seem to like him will always go back to how he r*ped Taesoo. Yes, I understand that the reason Chunwoo did was because he fed up and frustrated with Taesoo's passive attitude regarding their relationship, but in no way was that r*pe warranted or necessary.
I feel as though this whole fandom forgot about it or blathently sympathies with literally anyone other than the person who got r*ped. It doesn't help the after a few chapters, The story is aware that what Chunwoo did to Taesoo was bad, but never gives Chunwoo any consequences for what he did, in fact! He gets to be forgiven and happy with Ho in as Taesoo is left to accept his feelings for Chunwoo in solitude...Does that sound like a character getting the consequences for their action at a previous chapter for r*ping "a friend" as the story lampshade said r*pe? No it doesn't...
I don't know if I'm thinking too deep about this, but I just wanted to air out my biggest frustration with this story as I truly loved the set-up but hated the execution for it....I really wanted to like this one (srry for the long ahh comment(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ).
Sadly, people are so desensitised to r*pe that they don’t find it alarming in fiction anymore and see it as something that could be forgiven easily. There are also people who deadass fetishise it and find it hot. Just look at some of the most popular manhwas/huas/gas and most of them have r*pe in them or worse, but people are still defending and putting r*pists on pedestal (example: Night by the Sea, Roses and Champagne, etc)
Also thank you for your comment. I’ve been scrolling to see someone giving an actual review to see if I should read the story:
You are very much welcomed! It's really a shame that readers have become so desensitized to SA in media.
I do believe that it's a double standard since the offenders of those manhwas/huas/ gas are drawn to be conventionally attractive and that the authors tend to have a narrative where we're supposed to side with the r*pist characters. I think it could honestly say a lot about how r*pe culture is plagued with the media a lot of us consume but it's constantly excused by the real people making and reading them.
I however am lucky yet unfortunate to recognize abuse in my media due to personal experience and watching think-piece videos around pop culture discussing SA. I don't get traumatized by them anymore but I hate how it's so overlooked by the story, the fans and even the authors.
But thank you for reading my comment though!(≧∀≦)

I low-key ship the redhead (Yeonghyeon) with the nonchalant black haired guy (Sangjun). Idk why but I got free will and I choose to be delusional with it
No no you're not alone... I also ship them... But after the latest chapter doesn't look like red head will live
Lmao same but bruh this guy is way too suicidal
Thank you twin i thought I was the first and alone human to have that thought let's manifest this <333
I'm glad I'm not alone in this
