I feel like it is obvious the ML was in love with MC since high school..? First, I was wondering why ML had a grudge against MC, and it was because he found out MC was "sleeping" or "in love" with somebody else. Clearly, MC was in love with ML and was being coerced into a relationship by that other mfer. At the beginning, notice when he saw the two guys having sex, and he became enraged, the one he beat up was the top and not the bottom whom resembled MC. He felt betrayed by MC and did the whole homophobic act without realizing he himself is gay/in love with MC. Another thing, he is at war with himself, he "hates" MC (or rather feels betrayed) but can't help but think about MC, especially, after he saw the self harm scars. He clearly cares about MC and can't let him go but at the same time feels betrayed and is angry with MC. Basically he is one BIG IDIOT and MC is getting the brunt of his fury, though, MC is a very strong character, he still deserves better. I hope ML makes up for it once he realizes what a big idiot he has been and he had it all wrong.
