The first book is a cat witch who is being hunted by this couple in the future after they become yakuza. The cat witch makes his neighbor his familiar and together they try and survive.
This book is a prequel for the “villains” of the other book, showing how they met and presumably how they became yakuza.

I’m a little confused can someone explain how the two stories connect. I get one couple trying to kill the other but I’m still a little lost.
