From what I got, BL most of the time has the same characterisation and design. You could grab like 5 popular BLs and find the very same dynamics.
Also, mainly true, but don’t just read the popular. Some really are good if you leave the idk 10 most read ones aside.
They’re alike for a reason; that’s what’s popular and what brings the most reads.
That's what being popular tends to do. One manhwa will go mainstream and then 15 more will pop up with the exact same formula trying to ride on the coattails of the original. It's not only bl. It's every genre. Look at the top shoujo. It's all reincarnation, rebirth, or villainess stories. Shounen? All isekai, power fantasies. If you want "unique" reads, it's better to ask other readers than rely on rankings or ratings. People on mgg are usually more than happy to provide bl recs.
yeah. the post was pretty much rhetorical (though not indicated), I was just expressing/venting a little bit of frustration, really haha. the emphasis on bl was simply because at that moment, I'd been scouring through bl works, but I also meant it in general since I've also been reading shoujosei recently which is why I put in inside a parenthesis. I don't really rely on rankings and ratings either, I just scroll and scroll until I find something I like, or I go through the lists & stuff of other people who seem to match my preferences. when I can better phrase the specifics of what I'm looking for, I'd go post/ask for recs hahaha thanks for responding!
