There are usually two categories I have for stories I find myself not liking:
1. Great characters, horrible plot
2. Great plot, horrible characters
But this, don't belong into any of it. It's just subpar. So-so. In theory, I should like the characters, but I don't. The plot should be fresh for me, but I don't feel liking it. The whole thing is mediocre, honestly. Got me feeling frustrated. Wish I didn't found this. Eugh.
So annoyed with her other family. Honestly, just want more family interactions with her current fam but those from the other empire kept on getting in the way. I love every character here (excluding the villains ofc), save for that black haired guy I don't even bother remembering his name.

First off is the author's glaring kinks, lmao. But I would say that's more prominent in their other work, it's a little tamed here compared to there. It's something you need to be open minded with lmao. I think it boils down to personal preferences, for me it's making my skin crawl. Second is the story, which is the typical trend where authors makes their Main Characters' lives miserable for the plot. As though they design the whole world to be cruel to them just so the Lead can come in with rainbows and cupcakes. BUT the thing is, it's the second lead who does all the leg work while the main lead just gets angry, angry, and angry... And oh, get more angry. And of course, the Main Character still falls head over heels to the man who told him "I hope you died." It's sad because just like any gay relationships portrayed by these manhwas/manhua it's toxic and lowkey Stockholm syndrome and love bombing addiction. Phew. Now that I've let all that out, imma tell you that you don't have to put yourself through all that suffering. Just skip to the last ten or five chapters. That's where their relationship started looking like a proper one.
Sorry, that above is just my rant heheheh. For specific spoilers though, it goes like this: MC is the brother of the emperor's concubine/consort (forgot her title but basically she's part of his harem). He has been abused ever since he was young by his own family cause he's born from a maid. He got beaten, used as bait whenever his father hunted, and eventually his mother died. Fast forward to present time, through circumstances he met the emperor. They started sleeping together, emperor is a scumbag and treats him as a plaything (Emperor is basically: "oh, I don't know love, I don't love him, he's just someone to keep me amused"). MC already has a weak constitution from years of abuse so he naturally gets sick easily. In one scene, MC got bedridden cause he was told by the Emperor to keep his sperm in which made MC's stomach hurt. MC's sister later finds out about the whole shebang and went batshit crazy. The amount of times he got kidnapped and almost beaten to death was hilarious at this point. MC just won't die XD oh yeah, forgot to mention, MC almost got grape but was saved by second lead. Anyway, for a good while, MC was constantly abducted, beaten and almost got burnt alive. Second lead always came to his rescue. Meanwhile Emperor just gets angry each time. At the mastermind? Surprise! No, he's mad at MC cause "WhY aRe MaKinG mE fEeL ThIS WaY?" It only get good when chasing arc began. So yeah. That's pretty much it.
Oh shit, how could I forgot the worst part. Emperor pushed MC away after the fire and basically isolated him in an area of the palace. Second lead visited him. Emperor saw them as second lead was treating MC's feet. He got jealous and grape MC in front of the second lead and the soldiers holding second lead at sword point. Then after all that he threatens to kill second lead. MC wouldn't let him cause HE'S THE ONE WHO SAVED HIM FROM THE FIRE! Emperor tells MC to kill second lead himself instead. MC don't want to so he gets tries to run away. He gets beaten by his sisters men (again) was pushed to the edge of the cliff then MC ultimately jumps down hoping he dies.
