omg people in the comments still crying about a racist manwha being cancelled genuinely just end your life yaoi has melted some of yalls brain too much and it shows
What you feeble-minded people consider "racism" in this case is entirely a product of your inability to accept criticism and victimhood.
If you personally lack the mental maturity to understand that the world isn't going to treat you with rose petals regardless of your skin color, that's your problem.
I think there was a justified basis for suspicion and skepticism from the one chapter given. the foundation a story is built on, and it's execution, determines the strength of the final story. even though I can think of ways this could have beaten expectations, this story was on shaky ground to begin with, starting with the setting and characters, and ending with the "I'm your slave" line.
of all the kinds of people and stories you could tell about this time period in this place, why are these the ones chosen? what's the appeal of their dynamic? how is the setting and time period relevant to that?
as it stands, it looks like there was a very deliberate choice to write around the existence of Black people who lived during that time even though their presence and labor is integral to the livelihoods of the MCs. maybe the author thought they'd avoid the backlash they got by doing that, but that's still an expression of racism, by ignoring that Black people are also people who want their stories and experiences told and treated with respect. and if the author didn't want to include Black people, which they're ultimately not obligated to do, they would have been better off choosing another topic and setting to write about, because like it or not, when writing about American history, you'll have to grapple with the racial dynamics of this country one way or another, to say nothing of the civil war era (even postwar) where the crux of the conflict was "what are we going to do with these Blacks? (are they even people?)". to then make the only Black people in the story be faceless mobs seemingly only with the intention of making the white MC look good and ethical, just rubs salt in that wound.
it's very suspicious to have a story where the civil war and its aftermath are significant to the narrative and characters, and then only feature Black people as background props to assure modern readers that the protagonist isn't a bad person by their standards. maybe there would have been actual Black characters done well in future chapters, but that initial presentation does not inspire confidence in the creator since they were not even aware of the implications of what they drew in chapter one. and if they were aware of the implications and making choices for shock value in the first chapter, like the "I'm your slave" line, then the response to those choices shows that the creator needed to reconsider their approach if they wanted better, more favorable reactions.
that's not even getting into how ezra, the ml, looks very ethnically and culturally vague... how was the creator going to handle the history of dispossession of indigenous lands and the violence inflicted on indigenous people by whites to steal and settle their land? the various tactics and policies implemented by European settlers to weaken indigenous populations and suppress their ways of life that amounted to genocide? and that's not getting into how the ml is evidently mixed-heritage with blue eyes, which is its own can of worms in terms of visual design choices and how the creator would explore that character background.
perhaps the creator would have given more depth and nuance on the power and racial dynamics between the mc and ml in this time period, but their handling of the setup in the first chapter gave me significant doubts.
if the author wanted an interracial cowboy romance with this particular dynamic, they had other options for time and setting (and not to mention that those power and racial dynamics are present in other times as well).
every choice a creator makes in their story reflects their knowledge and interests, which are not free from bias. intentional or not, there were many opportunities for missteps here.
racism isn't always direct insults and targeted violence. it's also erasure and exclusion, putting particular people in particular roles. it's often unconscious and not deliberately intended. similar to how bullying isn't always physical violence, racism can operate in all kinds of subtle ways that can be hard to explain to other people if they aren't the target of it. many explanations have also been given in these comments for why people have reacted negatively to this.

...all those points stretched out to have the slightest excuse to feel excluded, not even discriminated against because none of that is really considered racism (for people with common sense). If you're a radical leftist, okay, your neurons have already been burned and indoctrinated.
If you want your own story told with you as the heroes, go for it.
The author isn't even white; maybe it's a little cheesy, but it was her work.
... am i supposed to recoil in horror at the insinuation of being a radical leftist? oh! how terrible!!!
conservative/right wing political movements love to portray learning about society and power as brainwashing into leftism so that they can justify rejecting knowledge or new perspectives, staying ignorant and vilify anyone who chooses to learn. as if you haven't been 'indoctrinated' into thinking that racism doesn't matter or only exists in that "common sense" (to who?) way that delegitimizes what people are identifying as racism and concluding that, ultimately, people should just shut up about it. too bad, you're not getting that.
everybody is operating with an ideology whether they're conscious of it or not, because ideology is simply an understanding of the world, one's position in it, and one's values that is informed by that world and society and position within it. the world a person lives in has already been shaped by the ideologies that motivated people's actions in the past and determines what they work for in the present and future. here's to hoping you learn and grow out of your present indoctrination, because these takes are horrendous.
we're not going to agree on what constitutes racism because you'll probably insist on a narrow definition and shallow understanding of racism that limits it to things you can ignore, as individual, trivial actions and beliefs. whereas I understand racism as an ideology that imposes a racial hierarchy on whole populations through a variety of obvious and subtle methods, to dominate, dispossess, and exploit the people it labels lesser while justifying those abuses.
stories and media are not exempt from this, including those made by artists who are also subject to racism. the "fun" thing about racism and racial hierarchies is that you don't need to be at the very top of the hierarchy to leverage prejudice and bigotry, intentionally or just through ignorance, at other people who are also marginalized by their race. there's often lateral aggression/violence and "punching down", depending on a person's position.
I can believe that the premise and execution of song of the wasteland didn't originate from malice, but ignorance doesn't get a free pass either. and that's why people talked about it even from the just the first chapter, because none of that originated in a vacuum, and none of that was free from the biases, assumptions, and narratives surrounding race and history that prioritizes the interests of white people at the expense of other groups marginalized by race. that's why the post-civil war setting is so noteworthy and egregious, because the failures of Reconstruction, lack of reparations, and subsequent efforts to subjugate and exploit former slaves are foundational to present-day problems, same with land theft and everything leading to reservations on the Native/indigenous side. and that's not even getting into how race and racism were codified into the social and political fabric of the country in ways that would definitely impact any potential interracial coupling of any sort at the time. i personally wasn't calling for the series to be dropped, and was willing to see where it would go even though i had serious misgivings and wariness about the creator's knowledge and capacity to handle all of that as someone presumably without any connection to any of that. i could give it a chance, but the risks were sky-high. that's why i'm glad the creator either took the criticisms to heart, or more likely simply recognized that a controversial story like this wouldn't necessarily generate the profits the creator and the publisher wanted, and dropped the story.
people can and should be free to create whatever they want, but that doesn't make it free from criticism or pushback from other people, especially when the profit motive is involved. why should anyone be able to make stories based on painful real life history and make money off of it without any feedback or response?
the creator and the publisher sought to make money off this series, and the feedback from potential customers that indicated that there would be problems monetizing a series like this. if this story was something the creator felt passionate about the world seeing, they could release it for free. otherwise, they currently have an opportunity to rework it/do something new, and make a better release.
It was an observation (apparently correct), I don't know why all that pantomime was necessary but ok.
I'm not right-wing; it's just that left-wing extremists made me lean more towards the center. Because any form of extremist dogma, with its rigidity, stifles independent thought and leaves no room for criticism or dissent, in addition to fostering intolerance.
That said, I'm not going to read all that, so... good luck, I'm out.
yaoi with dark blue hair(or black i forgot) meeting his idol(?I think) who has blonde hair and i think it mightve been bdsm but im not sure all i remember is blonde being the bottom and he was wearing some pink see through shit in the last few chapters but it was a short story
Could it be Miss You, Lucifer ( https://www.mangago.me/read-manga/miss_you_lucifer/)? Though it doesn't have the scenes of wearing pink see-through...
no not much, i remember them going a bit back and forth and the fact that it was a manwha with i think about 9? chapters something like that but im pretty sure in the end they ended up together
I dont remember a lot since its been months since i read it sorry if that wasnt helpful but really thanks a lot for trying to help me
Hii, ummm... I don't know how to say this, but I kinda want to try one more time. I've tried to search through the tags idol and so far, I haven't found anything matches your description, specifically the one that "wearing pink see-through" (I guess it's lingerie?). But I somehow find one that somehow similar to your description and also how short it is, it's The Position Has Changed? ( https://www.mangago.me/read-manga/the_position_has_changed/).
It matches your description of around 9 chapters (although there's a side stories), there's also bondage scenes (bdsm, that you mentioned). But the uke is not blonde, that's why I think it's 90% chance it's wrong.
Sorry if it's still wrong, even when I promise to help you find it (。•︿•。)
Heyyy, I know I kinda said that I give up, and I'm sorry if I come as persistent now. But I think, I wanna tell you about a manhwa I happened to read just now.
Oddly enough, it mostly matches what you described, it has bdsm (at least light bdsm). The top has black hair that idolize the bottom, who is blonde. And most of all, at the chapter near the end, the bottom is wearing pink lingerie, just like you mentioned. However, it's not as short as you said, it has 30 chapters.
It's called Lady's Parfait Time ( https://www.mangago.me/read-manga/lady_s_parfait_time/)
I'm not really confident myself this time, and I'm sorry if I make you feel uncomfortable by being persistent, but I just feel like I need to tell you what I saw this time.
And if it's still wrong this time, I'm sorry, for bothering and unable to help you ╥﹏╥
oh shinwi how i love you
