While I understand some people are mad at this, it doesn't mean this is bad? The whole thing is actually well done, Taeju and Euihyun get character development and if you like wholesome endings you get them.
If SA bothers you? No, don't come even nearby here. Yes, it's betweens MCs.
If abuse bothers you? NOO, Kim Sahyeok is HUGE piece of shit.
You want a 100% wholesome story? RUN, shit only gets wholesome at the VERY END
No defenses made for the author though lol
Good or bad is always going to be individual. If the story is well-made or not rarely matters. We see it everywhere. People who hate lord of the rings don't care that it was monumental for the development of the fantasy genre. Emotions decide.
The fact that people discuss this manwha so deeply and passionate is proof that the story is made well enough to wake intense emotions. Making a reader upset isn't easy. Looking at a story objectively is uncommon, and it's not necessary to do. It's entertainment, not a school assignment.
Reading or interacting with comments is optional. I would say the people who are mad about the hate this story gets are the "winners" in the end. I won nothing reading this, if anything I only lost.
Those who enjoyed this story but is upset about the hate wouldn't be so very angry at people discussing it in an unfavourable light if they realised that. After all, they read a story they liked.
Thanks for the well thought comment! I take you didn't like this then? I do agree with most of your points, but here are my two cents now that I'm not venting emotions at 2AM.
While interacting with comments is optional, they influence a readers experience a lot. Except this specifically is pointless on a comment section only people who read the work are going to see, I know.
As you said, this is no school assignment so there's no need to assess things objectively and taste is highly subjective. But I think people can have a different kind of appreciation for something they can recognize was considered good when it came down to technicalities.
My only intent with the original comment was to get people who didn't like the work to calm down and think about their preferences. As I said previously on it, if the things I mentioned are a deal breaker for them, I can't see how they would like this.
And while people are free to vent their dislike, I just wanted to break the tide a bit because some people who liked it could get discouraged by the sea of negative comments.
I actually liked your first comment. I think it shows consideration for readers who enjoyed the story, those who didn’t, and people who are still deciding whether they want to pick it up.
As a writer, I liked the school-assignment analogy. What I was trying to get across is that most readers judge a story primarily through their emotional reaction to it. If someone is angry at a story, they’re very likely to think it’s bad, regardless of its structure or the effect it might be aiming for. Appreciating the technical side usually requires stepping back and looking at the storytelling itself, and that kind of analysis is a bit beyond what most casual readers are interested in doing.
I also see “don’t like, don’t read” used a lot as a response to negative comments. But someone who disliked the story is still someone who read it, and they have just as much right to talk about it as the people who loved it. At that point, “don’t like, don’t read” feels a bit late. If the majority of comments were overwhelmingly positive, I doubt anyone would be telling people to “calm down.” Positive or negative, it’s all part of discussing the story. The fact that criticism is negative doesn’t necessarily mean it should be toned down.
I do realize that saying it’s optional to interact with comments was a bit of an oversimplification, and you’re right to point that out. I still think that choosing whether to read comments is ultimately up to each person. Unfortunately, the Mangago comment section is a bit chaotic and not very functional, so if someone gets discouraged easily, skipping a comment section like that one might honestly be the healthier option. It’s definitely a shame, especially if you want to discuss the story with other fans, but in the end we only have control over our own choices. Sometimes we have to do things that don’t feel fair, but are still the practical option.
And to answer your question about whether I like the story: I don’t. Not at all. I got too curious for my own good. But I did read the entire thing, and it intrigued me enough to keep going, which says something about how well crafted the narrative technique is. I suppose I’m the cat curiosity killed.
And I also want to thank you for a calm conversation. I really enjoyed reading your comment!
Thank you again! I feel flattered haha. The tone on your first reply was quite flat so I wasn't sure where I stood.
I'm also glad I was able to get across my original what I wanted. This work specifically has some tropes that are very divisive and sensitive, so I wanted to get it very clear. What bothered me on the negative comments was how quite a few of them implied some not-so nice things about fellow readers who did enjoy the story. Hence the need to "calm down".
Also, I think I didn't quite get your school-assignment point properly was because I, personally, always try to appreciate the technicalities in a work and will rate it accordingly. If the story lacks it, but I liked it, it will get a decent rating and vice versa. So it didn't cross my mind someone would rate purely out of emotion?
Haha I know, right? I actually expanded on that because I'm the easily discouraged reader who avoids comment sections exactly because of it. Very glad I did because some of the stories had very negative comment sections.
Thank you again for the conversation!
Take me for example, when this was ongoing, I was reading this every week and it wasn't my favorite but it was okay but I don't get the hype at all. Like it was hot and I rmb Taeju being an asshole and has a redeemed himself at the end. But rereading it now continuously, I actually find it well written now! I came to appreciate it more and I love their chemistry. It's way better than Love is an Illusion for me tbh (I like that one too)
It's not like I didn't enjoy it at first but just okay lol maybe I get to appreciate a series more if it's completed and I can read continuously. Reading every week kills the excitement for me tbh especially when I'm forgetful lol but yeaaa reading it again made me appreciate to the point I went ahead and splurge on merch of it idk if that's a good idea
I must admit tho, I really enjoy red flag tops lol it makes the story more interesting for me tho I don't really enjoy Jinx so I guess it really depends on the character (personality wise and how hot they are lololol)
Haha I agree the mc in LIAI is so annoying until the end
Does AU Kendrick get pregnant though?
