the second couple is so gross. just. no.
but honestly atp the first couple is pissing me off too. half of each chapter is like a closeup of a side profile longing look and i'm ngl the mc is annoying. drag this guy into a fake dating scheme, string him along, and then run off when it turns out to be too much for you? yikes bro. that's all kinds of fucked up.
i get that coming out in a homophobic country is huge, and that not everyone is willing to take that risk, and i'm not judging that. but the mc is just not really likeable overall. he's just sort of a wimpy coward pushover in everything. i have no desire to root for him whatsoever.
this is a fucking trainwreck
ig this is what happens when you write yourself so deep in a corner you can't dig yourself out with a backhoe
don't get me wrong. it's an interesting overall plot, and the antagonism between the esper and guide was interesting for the first like, 10 chapters and then it just...never changed
surprise surprise it's a sudden happy ending after 69 chapters of bullshit and suddenly now it's requited and they're happy.
and literally nothing changed.
the ml did not change. the mc asked for space and tbe ml couldn't even give him that. the whole trial thing was so ??????
like yes the ml suffered but suffering doesn't inherently wipe away when you hurt someone else??? their hurt still stays and they're not under any obligation whatsoever to forgive you let alone keep you in their life????? there was no narratively-significant character growth to support them suddenly being happy together. they're pretty much exactly the same as they were in the beginning other than with less gagging.
the old man was so fucking op too for no goddam reason lmao. so he must be like some S+++++++ esper to be able to do all of that huh
the whole every time the guide thinks the esper is dead or seriously hurt (and jesus christ it happened multiple times) suddenly he cares again was so fucking jarring. serious whiplash. if the intent was that the guide was lying to himself/an unreliable narrator situation, they did it poorly
honestly comical
the concept was pretty fun for the first few chapters but it's pretty clear the author was very much in over their head and the execution fell so, so flat
I totally agree that it really feels like the author wrote themselves into a corner. After having Chiyoung repeatedly reject Baekhan, there also was no believable reconciliation between them or anything that felt romantic from them both in this whole recent season. It was just, 'let's put Baekhan's life in danger to force reasons for them to be together' (they did this more than once too, the repetitiveness with no change between their relationship or feelings for each other was also tedious). And then write in a wise old woman to have a relationship talk with Chiyoung. Surely that will fix the massive wedge I've narratively driven between both characters to the point where it makes more sense for them to never see each other again than to somehow expect them to get together.

why the fuck is this called sweet shot
the only sweet thing in this entire goddamn story is the guy about to be turned down. ML is so fucking gross, if he was really sorry he'd just go the fuck away and never come back.
exhausting...
