I can't really tell so much since it also shocked me. So basically, tod is like evil person. If you know about cowboys, you know how they cherish things around them like Dennis did with the lamb or sheep (idkt he difference, tbh). Soo...The last chapter shows how evil Tod actually was. He was like a spy in a territory that will attack any second which he did when Dennis left to report. Maybe the ending is vague but it shows how Dennis only experienced "love" with Tod for a long time and didn't even noticed a thing about his action—maybe it is love blind— we'll know for sure Dennis is blind for that to the point he ended himself without second thought.
