The marriage was consensual but he hated everyone because he was trapped. Still doesn’t justify him treating his innocent wife like shit tho, specially how he wouldn’t let her meet up with any of her friends

nah, the guiding from the fake was damaging him and was getting less effective as the days wore on, worsened by the fact that the government was conducting experiments on him and forcing him to do stuff which strained his power usage.

as a man trapped in a totalitarian regime where his only hope of ever returning to his own world is the woman who kidnapped him, and the only one who can make that woman return him is the government that controls her, and said government wishes to use him for as long as they can, there was no choice he made in that dimension that could ever be made "consensual". all his "choices" were forced upon him under severe mental and physical strain. the evaluations for compatibility was also something forced upon him by the government, and FL was someone employed by the government. If he didn't marry FL he would've died in agony.

Ofc, the ML wasn't the perfect husband either in those crappy circumstances. He was so emotionally constipated and paranoid by the time he married FL so there was definitely a lot of neglect that he should take accountability for. There's also the fact that this period in Korea was told from the POV of FL and in the novel, all the kindness and care from ML was written off as dreams, only to be revisited as the truth later on (ngl i dislike this trope but the novel does make a good effort to plant clues at the beginning to show the FL is an unreliable narrator when it comes to their previous relationship, including the meeting up with friends bit.)

that doesn't excuse his trash behavior to the mc, he was a terrible person in general remember he avoided his brother when he needed him the most and left him to rot in that home, then treated the mc like trash and making her lose her friends because he wanted her near him and she had to tell him everything to where she was going to who she was talking to, yet he was allowed to go off somewhere without telling her and talk to who he wants. And when they were at home together, he avoider like the plage unless he needed guiding. He was not a good person and even though he is in the past he still doesn't consider her feelings and answer's, she said no countless times and yet he still wants her to be his. he is a very toxic person and doesn't deserver the mc.
