Zhenya left after he confirmed Taekjoo is still alive. He left because he cant process the fact that Takejoo essentially rejected him after saying he'd rather die than stay there. His confusion us due to the fact that those emotions are new to him and he doesn't know how to deal with them.

Zhenya leaves and goes back to Moscow. The FSB wanted Zhenya to kill Takejoo for the longest time and since they finally figured out that it aint happening they sent him on a suicide mission while they infiltrate his mansion to take Anastasia for themselves. Zhenya only agreed to do it so they would get off his ass about handing Taekjoo and Anastasia over.

It was nice when they were sweet towards each other in season 1, but seriously expected the angst when shat hit the fan. The angst hurt but it's like popping a boil that's been festering for so long. Their previous fluffy scenes were hiding the true intentions, and I'm personally glad all of it's out in the open; no more hiding their true feelings. At least this way it's time to heal and MAYBE even find a middle ground towards forgiveness and reconciliation. Also the little comic is such a fun reprieve from all the painful scenes
