Didn't he have a conversation with his father about that? He implied that his father somehow made it look like Baek Seonwoo died and the father told ML that as well. During the conversation he said something like that it was extremely weird that Baek Seonwoo died all of a sudden. What daddy probably fabricated to seperate MC & ML and it probably worked cause Seonwoo also lost his memory because of sth and daddy probably bribed people and had them move away while making it look like Seonwoo died to trick ML.
And at the beginning ML thought it Baek Yeonwoo who just looked like Baek Seonwoo, cause his bro told him to break up with him and surely he told him the name Yeonwoo, causd that's who he was dating. Only thanks to dumb ex, trying to seperate them, and giving ML Seonwoo's ID, he found out. And because on the ID you have birthday, name and more noted it was obvious he got tricked by both his father and in a way Seonwoo who played Yeonwoo ╮(￣▽￣)╭
