So how do we feel about woman portrayal in bl in general.
I go first , I'm seeing a pattern . Some bl mc/ml cheat on their female partner , many female are portrayed as simp and some as homewrecker . I love yaoi , in my xx years of living finding yaoi was my greatest joy but yaoi does have some defects . I thought of this after reading wedding blues.
I wish for more complex or morally gray female characters but after seeing how people talk about the only female character in Unromantic Taxi i rather authors don't add female characters at all. I'm tired of misogynistic ass readers
i just now realized most of the bls i read doesnt have much female characters ( ̄へ ̄)
or im just dumb and I can't remember
This is genuinely a problem a for me,I cannot read bls with no women or it has maybe one or two women and they are portrayed as these villainesses,it just shows bad world building from the author, like yes I know it's a gay romance but women literally make up half of the world your saying that not one good woman even as a good side character or even like npc exists,I gen even dropped this one manhwa where the author made the mc so incredibly naive and just plain stupid and the woman this extremely evil cunning villainesses that I had to drop it cause I was just rooting for that girl at one point, like how is the antagonist more interesting than the mc and even has better chemistry with the ml in a bl???and she was the only woman in that bl with a clear focus, all the other focuses are all 'good' men on the ml or mcs side,it's just gives such misogynistic tones
I do feel like female characters are mostly an afterthought given how the appeal of BL is the 'B' though I do still think certain authors manage to give female characters good writing or charming characterizations regardless of the genre. Case in point: Midori from Count Tachibana, the girls of One Room TA (I looove Cheong-ah...) and Sweeten the Deal, Mebuku of Aoi-kun no Waidan ga Tamaranai!! and etc... I think good portrayals exist, but given the focus of the genre it's not totally prioritized which is something I'll just have to accept. I'd look outside the genre for more though, definitely
