I think a lot of people misunderstood the ending and reduced Penelope's entire character arc to romance.
The story literally reveals that the Penelope we've been following is a "fragment" of the real Penelope. She isn't just some random girl who got trapped inside a dating sim. This world stopped being "just a game" the moment we learned who she really was.

Returning to the "real" world was only her goal because, at the beginning, she believed escaping the game was the only way to survive. As the story progressed, she found something she never truly had in either world: people who genuinely loved her, chose her, and gave her a place where she finally belonged.

Another thing I don't understand is why people suddenly started doubting Penelope's judgment at the end. She's been careful and smart throughout the story. Almost every decision she made was based on the information she had at the time.

The biggest mistake she made was manipulating Eckles, but even that happened when she still genuinely believed this was just a game with affection meters and predetermined routes. She treated him like a game mechanic because that's exactly what she thought he was. By the time she realized this world wasn't simply a game anymore, the damage had already been done, and she acknowledged that mistake herself. She wasn't rewarded for it, the story made her face the consequences.

That's why her final decision carries so much weight. It wasn't made by the same Penelope who only wanted to clear a game and escape. It was made by someone who had already realized this world, the people in it, and her own existence were all real.

Even if she returned to the "real" world , what exactly was waiting for her? A terminal illness, years of abuse and neglect, and a family that only began to regret everything when she was already dying. Why would that suddenly be the happier ending?

She didn't stay just because she loved Callisto. She stayed because, for the first time in her life, she found a home.

And I know it's not that deep, I just wanted to rant.
