started FMNM in my senior year of high school, now just finished my first year of medical school. feels so bittersweet. so much has changed, and now there's no more checking mangago to see if there's been an update... here's just a final dumping ground of my thoughts
seeing everyone lurking until exploding in the comments at the end was really cute, i really had thought that no one was reading this anymore. i still remember that user from a couple years back who would post analysis after analysis of each chapter in the comments haha.
initially it was the oh that's hot i did not know That was my kink scenes (esp 704 and geumsun) that sucked me in but i didn't expect it to have such a rich storyline. even the backgrounds are drawn meticulously well, all of it is really beautiful. thank you shin for gracing us with such a beautiful story. i really do feel like this is an actual story with rich, fleshed out characters. a lot of BL nowadays feels like the same stale plot reused over and over again. i also really like that 704 is a bottom but he very much is his own person. he's so cool and snarky haha. i remember shin posting on twitter that in the abo verse 704 is an alpha along with geumsun which i thought was neat.
i really appreciated the early messaging of trying to find a way out of a suicidal state (esp eunjae) and coping with hardship, especially when you're alone. i think it was really comforting to me to read that through the years, and i think i was a little disappointed with the plot in the end. i'm not sure if anyone else felt like this? although i'm happy 704 and geumsun finally ended together (!!) and san and eunjae, it felt like it fell back on a typical BL ending. the ending messaging felt almost like saying you need someone else in your life for life to really be worth living (ex : 704 picking the king role just bc geumsun is by his side?? like huh? what happened to the independent guy i knew before?) which felt a bit weird considering the prior storyline. i guess at the end of the day, this is an BL, i think i would have just liked it to be more of a message like you yourself choose to keep living well, and the people around you helping with that decision but not playing the key crucial role that keeps you going. idk though, that might just be my general complaint with a lot of romance stories.
