Yeomin is one of the most likeable protagonists I’ve seen in a BL in a long time. Given the tropes of this story, the author totally could’ve made Yeomin a flat and uninteresting sunshine character, but he’s not that at all. He’s an absolute sweetheart, but he knows when to put up boundaries. He doesn’t let that brat he tutors mess with him and he refuses to let Mr. Yeon meddle with his debt, for example. He’s not completely helpless, and even though there are times when he’s crying and Mr. Yeon has to pick him up or help him, those situations are completely reasonable. Like if I got kicked out of my apartment, had all my things thrown out in the rain, and got beaten up, I would be crying too. Even when he basically loses everything, he still thinks about his plans of what to do next. His strong drive to survive makes you want to see him succeed. You can also tell he’s very intelligent, not only in school, but he’s very socially aware of his circumstances. He doesn’t stick too close to people at school because he knows it might be dangerous for them and because he knows they judge him for his circumstances—he also doesn’t have any time. He’s aware that his landlord treats him like garbage, but he stays there because he can’t afford anywhere else. A poor writer, in comparison, would probably make their sunshine character completely unaware of the mistreatment they receive from others to preserve the sunshine quality of the character. Yeomin doesn’t need that since his bright personality still shines despite his poor circumstances. The only times where he’s not very rational is when he’s with Mr. Yeon but that’s only because he loves him so much. His love for Mr. Yeon is reasonable too because Mr. Yeon has been the only person that he’s been able to rely on in dire circumstances. That hyung Yeomin is friends with is a close second, but he isn’t able to fully support Yeomin the way he so desperately needs. Mr. Yeon is not a perfect person by any means, but in his defence, he cares about Yeomin’s health, safety, financial security, and shows him physical affection outside of sex, so I understand why Yeomin is so attached to him. I would say most of Yeomin’s flaws come from his reluctance to accept help and his inability to understand his and Mr. Yeon’s relationship (which I will say is not Yeomin’s fault since Mr. Yeon makes that hard for him). He doesn’t think he matters that much to Mr. Yeon, which is why he prioritized working (when he still had debt) over spending time with him and is now prioritizing school. It can be frustrating to watch him act this way, but you can still blame this on Mr. Yeon’s inability to use his words properly—an “I care about you and want to see you often” would work wonders on Yeomin compared to “Don’t crawl out of the house without permission.”
Basically, Yeomin is a very well written and likeable character in my opinion—he is kind without being stupidly altruistic, he’s driven to a point where you really want to root for his success, and he’s intelligent.
If you hate him, I think you should die.
Any recommendations for bl where the bottom is bigger & younger than the top please? Something like Love Tractor, Dirty High, Love for Sale, Spinach Bouquet, etc. It can be manga, manhwa, manhua or whatever. I feel like I have read everything already :(
There are so many bls where an interracial couple has a white or partially white top and a fully Asian bottom (Walk on Water, Shutline, Flashlight, Our Sunny Days, King’s Maker are just a few popular ones I can name off the top of my head), but can anyone name one bl with an interracial couple where the white/not fully Asian one is the bottom? I am just curious if there are any, honestly.
Just wondering if the manhwa “순정걸레” is on this site? My guess at the romanization is “soonjeong geolre” but I don’t know if there’s an official romanization or English translation of the title. It’s basically about this blonde sunbae seducing this top student straight laced black haired guy with glasses. They look a lot like Eunyung and Haejoon from No Home if that helps haha.
I still hate the younger brother no matter what. I’m glad Jooin and Yegyum got their happy ending, but that guy never deserved one. Yegyum crying with Jooin after having sex just shows how traumatic the sexual assault was. Even if Yegyum “initiated” it after, it was still rape, and I hate seeing the brother do well despite everything. I wish there were more repercussions for his crimes or at the very least I wish he never sexually assaulted Yegyum in the first place. But even taking away the sexual assault, he was still an abuser, so I don’t think I would ever be okay with his character either way.
For now, I’m just making do with pretending he doesn’t exist in the side stories. I hope there aren’t more side stories that focus on him (please do not prove me wrong, I’m actually begging.)
Seongah you are so adorable that I just want to put you in my pocket and keep you safe forever.
Lily, I love you so much. You are the cutest, sweetest, most adorable cat in the world. I will willingly skim through 10000000 chapters of Norman getting railed within an inch of his life just to catch a peek of your face. If Lily has 100 fans, I am one of them. If Lily has one fan, it is me. If Lily has no fans, I am dead. I love you so much, Lily; you are the bestest cat in the entire world.
The last line “Aku mohon tolong aku, Jake” can be translated to “Please help me, Jake” basically
In the kr version its “도와줘 제이크” which can be translated to “Help me, Jake” too if anyone was wondering
It’s really niche so I don’t think many people will know it, but I’ve been searching for it for a while and it’s driving me crazy. I’m grasping at straws at this point, so I decided to ask here.
It’s a Japanese bl movie where the one of the characters’ moms (or grandmas?) is ill, but she always wanted to travel around the world. So the son befriends this other guy and they band together to create audio clips of them “travelling” (but they haven’t actually been travelling anywhere, they just create the sounds with what they have) to show the guy’s mom (or grandma). They start to get close through making these recordings, but everything kind of falls apart when the mom dies. It’s a sad ending and they don’t end up together. The romance also isn’t explicit necessarily, but I’m calling it a bl just to help narrow down my options.
I love the cinematography and aesthetic of this movie so much that I wanted to rewatch some parts, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere…please help if this sounds familiar to you…
The chapter after this is really going to make you think Hohyun is a goner, so beware. But he’s fine. They don’t restart again.
It’s been a while since I’ve read it so I don’t remember much, but the main character was blonde and he’s always had this dark presence around him. He didn’t really know what it was, but it was always kind of there for him, and he always had a feeling it was more sentient than it seemed. He slowly developed feelings for it too, I’m prefty sure. Then it’s revealed that the dark presence was death(?) and he had a human form. In his human form he had black hair and wore some sort of like industrialized black mask that covered his face. That’s all I really remember from it, but I could be getting some details wrong. Please let me know if you recognize the manga—I want to reread it so badly.
I don’t know if it says this anywhere, but I just realized the title is zaijian (再見) countdown which is goodbye countdown in english. I hope this one doesn’t make me cry.
“My tomorrow became you” incredibly moving line. I’m so glad the author made almost everyone fall for Chansol because honestly who wouldn’t. 10/10
They’re so cute that it feels like they’re already dating. Seungha’s kinder and more considerate than he thinks he is, so I’m glad he has someone who appreciates that about him. I can’t wait for what’s going to happen next
I cannot believe I have not read this before. Highly recommend.
