The bros hate this because it's too gay not not marked BL and there are too many female characters and no waifus, but if it was marked BL, we can see that people would then just hate it for focussing on characters and plot and relationships beyond the 'main ship' and also why are there so many female characters when they could have been cute boys instead?! (actual complaint I have seen in the wild)
Along with an amazing cast of both male and female characters, this also has a fantastic plot about the importance and power of loving people that builds over time as well as very interesting worldbuilding. I think anyone looking for just romance focussed on two people might find all the extra plot and character-focus in this work boring, but this is the perfect work for people who like slashy ships in plotty works that focus on more than just 2-3 main characters.
One of the strongest points of this work is actually the strong cast of characters - Yoojin (the MC), and Hyunje and Yoohyun (who can be considered the two secondary mains) all get their character and story arcs where they change and evolve over time and have consistent motivations for how they behave, but so do Yerim and Hyuna and Riette and Noah and Myeongwoo and Kang Soyoung and even minor characters like Do Hamin and Seok Hayan are clearly actively moving things that effect plot even if they are not in front of the MC at all times. And there are so many more delightful characters yet to be introduced in the webtoon.
Hyunje/Yoojin is faaar from the only ship you'll feel like shipping, Hyunje/Yoojin/Taewon has great chemistry too, as does Yoojin/Myeongwoo, and Riette/Soyoung is barely subtext even in the webtoon. Hyuna gets very shippy storylines with Evelyn as well.
Currently the webtoon has reached barely 15% of the total story, and many things are yet to be revealed. It's going to be a long but rewarding ride with one of the most satisfying and well-knit plots and arcs to a webnovel I have read in a long while, if ever.
Btw there is a high-school spinoff with 22 chapters that focuses on Ayato and friends called Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai & Zettai BL ni Naranai Kōkō Seikatsu (絶対BLになる世界&絶対BLにならない高校生活, A World That Definitely Becomes BL & A High School Life That Will Definitely Not Be BL). It got released in Volume form in 2025 as well, does anyone know if a translation of that exists anywhere too?
