He has glasses and this one knight is loyal to him because he helped him in the past so the latter fell in love with him. The king is the ml and the mc purifies his magic or something and it weakens the mc then he had to take over the king to strengthen the kingdom's barrier which almost kills him. He lives but he forgets a lot so the king takes advantage of it by isolating him.
He's in love with the king but thinks the king will never fall in love with him. Wizards/warlocks/whatever he is, are discriminated against and are treated with suspicion in the kingdom so he has low self esteem.
