Honestly I just don't think this should have been Yaoi. They built up everything else around it so much that by the time it's gotten to anything explicit, it just feels so forced and out of place. This honestly would've been perfectly fine without any sort of romance between the male leads. It genuinely feels so grating, like one second he's going through all the shit he experienced in the dungeon, you can clearly see how traumatised he is and then the next seen he's butt naked being fucked like? And up to the point where things start getting explicit, there's no mention at all of him being gay or attracted to me and then all of a sudden he's blushing and the other male lead keeps calling him good looking? It really doesn't make sense...
To be fair, the original novel doesn't have any smut in the main story, and it's better for it. I hate that they crammed smut in just for the sake of it. Personally I love their relationship, and I'm enjoying seeing it visualized, but you definitely see the development more in the novel.
Don't know why you're being downvoted because this is such a huge reason why the novel is better. It's like they added sex because they thought they'd lose readers if they kept the slow burn. Imo the novel did an amazing job of balancing plot and building romance. The sudden inclusion of the side stories within the main plot felt like such a punch in the face and ruined the sinister vibe the story had been building before that point.
A big part of his story is that he doesn’t pursue friendships or relationships because of his suicidal plan…… being able to find someone to love and being in a relationship is a big feat in the development of his character and a part of his healing. I think yes maybe the sex scenes can be jarring but to say it shouldn’t be a BL at all i completely disagree with

SUUUUUPER ruins the vibe. It’s such a somber story and then suddenly it’s dicks out for no reason
Anyone else think the Duke drugged Louis with that drug that was used by the criminal dude, the night he met the prince and slept with him - he was way too compliant - also very sus how the butler kept trying to get him to drink tea when he went to reject the Duke - super sus
