In Under the Oak Tree, the Roem Empire has already fallen, and Maxi is the last surviving descendant of the Roem imperial family, which means Thalia, Gareth, and Ayla are her ancestors. The fall of the Roem Empire happened because the North demanded independence, but when the empire refused, war broke out. The emperor sent Prince Gareth to suppress the rebellion, but he was captured, and the North demanded independence in exchange for Gareth’s freedom. This incident ultimately led to the collapse of the Roem Empire.

However, in the current events of The Forgotten Field, Varkas intervenes and saves Gareth, meaning there is no negotiation for independence. This is also what leads to Thalia’s death, because the North faction shifts their focus toward the East instead. In other words, the events of Under the Oak Tree would no longer happen, because the timeline has changed.

So there’s a theory that Varkas will turn back time, choose not to save Gareth, and prevent Thalia from dying. That way, the events of Under the Oak Tree would unfold exactly as they were originally meant to.

Honestly, fast paced and the story doesn't make sense at some parts what a shame.

I'm so very disappointed with the ending but also satisfied? 2nd ml development was making it up for his past actions but he just couldn't let his pride and ego down which basically scraps the idea of his character development. I just knew that they ain't ending up tgt (buddy, regretting his choices now, talk about delulu.)
