Didn't hate it, but I wouldn't read again. I agree with an earlier commenter that all the angst, jealousy, crazed behavior would have landed better if we had more context and back story. MC clearly has some issues (aloof, socially anxious etc) and it's hinted there is childhood trauma there, but we're mostly left to fill in the blanks. ML, on the other hand, behaves like someone with serious anxious attachment but we hear about this mostly through other the characters as a "shitty personality", so that's all we're left with. All in all, the characters and story would have been more compelling if they had a bit more depth
To each their own, but I found this to be a diabolical mix of stupid, unbelievable (hypnotism), incredibly unlikeable characters all around, and 2 dimensional. If the concepts of blending families and what that can do to a person and the abuse and trauma had been more fleshed out (the devastating life-long manipulation, bullying, and obsession/control by that utter douchebag), this could have been a really interesting. Instead, we got to witness disturbing domestic violence washed with a 'but they love each other' at the end. Much easier to write some utter garbage and slap a 'psychological' tag on it to reel people in. Art was good, tho

I loved the depth the author gave to the friendships and redemption beyond just the main characters. While not a perfect story, I rate this a solid 9.5/10 for character development, pace, and storytelling. Small detractor and probably just a translation error, but describing all of her steps with "clomp" was rather hilarious and made me wonder if she secretly had size 11 feet..
