With the issue we had with lists, I lost one of my fav manhwas ever. It's basically comedy with action. I forgot the right term, but their setting is like old Chinese times where they learn martial arts(???) The mc's group is plum blossom. Someone betrays their group and everyone dies. YEARS pass by, the mc reincarnates and their group who was once known as one of the, if not THE best group is now poor with barely any students. Also, the mc also has a bestfriend who was an expert with poison. Over all, this is a leak story lol

What's the appeal with playboy/cheater mls? Like genuinely. What's the appeal? I never understood that attraction. I remember as a kid I would have classmates who would fawn over guys who r basically every girl's bf once, and they still fawn for them...?? it's cuz of the potential payoff / emotional catharsis. the ml being a cheater/playboy is a very intentional choice by the author, and usually means the process of "taming" him will be more arduous and angsty, but that also means he will suffer/grovel more when he falls for mc. a lot of these stories with this ml archetypes are associated with classist fantasies with unequal social statuses/dynamics, so when mc makes the usually more rich playboy ml fall for them and earn their devotion, the catharsis is peak bc not only did they win over guy no one else can tame, they also get wealth, attention, social status, power, etc. (speaking out of my ass based on observations of "romance stories" in general, there are prob some exceptions that deal with a playboy/cheater ml in a non-power fantasy way)
Imo, a lot of these playboy mls don't even grovel. A lot of them just stay the way they are, while the fl is usually always a doormat. This is how I came to hate shoujo mangas in highschool settings. Cuz why is it always a playboy ml and a doormat fl?? And why is it whenever it's a manhwa and the title is ALWAYS something about divorce but the fls never follow through. And somehow the readers who are fans of those type of tropes, call the fl a baddie...?? All I see is a bird.

never said they were good grovel. a lot of authors are afraid to go the extra mile cuz they want a palatable story for a broader audience, and to wrap it up with a happy ending, so grovel arcs tend to be very dissatisfying. I'm just noting a theme in these stories, which are just a classist + romance power fantasy for self-insert mc, and a playboy rich ml and doormat mc dynamic is rife with melodrama, so that's what sells. people like drama, and the payoff of "taming" such an ml into a devoted lover/dog. that's literally it. a virgin, soft boi, green flag, devoted from the get-go ml? that's a different kind of fantasy. i personally have gotten tired/bored of reading otome isekai as i have a lot of complaints as well. so i rec taking a break from them or being more selective, cuz most authors will keep using these tropes since they are what sells and they don't have the ability to write a unique story that is also profitable.
