I think basically before the drinking party the ML got into a run-in with his very rich and prestigious family, and it stressed him out a lot. Soooo during the drinking party he seeks out the MC as stress relief. The whole time he's been playing in his face because he is using him and cant handle his own emotions. It might also be because his family wouldn't support them being together either.
