I mean..Compton does raise a genuinely thought-provoking possibility. Like we dont know how heejae would react, and i'd be interested in seeing it. Personally tho, based on how his feelings have developed, i believe his love for garam has grown beyond his initial fascination with garam's "sound". And I also think that heejae was drawn to garam himself even before he consciously understood that. I mean yeah the sound may have been the thing that initially identified garam as special to him, but it doesn't necessarily explain why his attachment developed into what it is now. ..
So what compton brings up in this chap (197)i wouldn't really read that as automatically disproving heejae's love but read it as posing a really interesting test of what heejae's attachment has actually become. we'll have to seee.

I don't think a 'would he have fallen for Garam if he didn't have that sound' is redundant. Ofc he wouldn't! But it does not matter because Garam has that sound and he has been compassionat and they are in love.
If Garam loses his sound NOW however...i do wonder if Prof would still keep him by his side if Garam can't be his Horowitz anymore.

i mean, yeah, that's what i'd like to believe anyway; we're both interpreting what we've seen so far and neither interpretation can completely answer a hypothetical that the story hasn't actually put them through lol.
it's more like: the "sound" has been the foundational element of their entire relationship, so what happens when that foundation is suddenly removed? I think that's fascinating regardless of what we currently believe, and that's what im particularly curious about too. That's why i wouldn't wanna predict too confidently either way. The author could take this in a direction that neither of us anticipated
