The difference between this and some other guideverse and hunterverse stories is they didn’t use trauma as part of the main conflict, only mere backstory.
The Esper doesn’t really like the idea of having a personal Guide but he’s not strongly against it either. He is also living just for the sake waiting to die, but he is not suicidal.
Their relationship is wholesome. Their fights are mostly trivial and the problems mostly come from external sources rather than their relationship.
The story keeps switching between a dark gloomy world with gore everywhere and their wholesome relationship.
So the novel only has 40 chapters and 30 side stories. I always thought this was such a long story.
It's one the author's shortest stories.lol But it will get another extra.
Of the Miller series only the grandparents story is shorter.
The longest is the parent's story with almost 300 chapter including extras.
Possible that Grayson's can beat it, it has currently 210 including the first extra, but will get a very long second extra.
Ah, good. Not everyone has an account there or wants to make an account. But there are links. And I don't think you would regret reading it, it's pretty entertaining thanks to Grayson's crazyness and his weird quirks, he is a riot. And his dynamics with Dane, they are a pretty chaotic couple. And a lot of known characters appear there. Josh is also involved in that mess.^^ And especially Grayson has a really good character development.

Even if it’s the ML's child, their relationship will be fine since the MC is very understanding
The ML deserves to get slapped by every single one of his exes before he could settle down
