He finally hit that guy, what a thrill it was to see him get beaten up. It's a stupid revenge because the bottom completely lost his memory after they hit. It's impossible to recover from that amnesia. So this is nonsense.
The guy has already raped him repeatedly, taken nude photos of him, had him gang-raped, and now he's kidnapped and torturing him. I suppose the "debt" is more than paid, But this continues, and it gets worse. And why worse? Because the bottom is a new person; they don't know their own past because of amnesia.
So all we see here is a madman who can't stop (even though he's already done a lot) with a senseless revenge. Because the bottom doesn't really remember, then he can't feel remorse or apologize. This is sooo stupid.
fr that’s why it pisses me off so much when ppl are like “but he deserves revenge” coffeedrinker
EXACTLY! It seems that if they read the novel, they only did half of it. Because it's clearly explained that he remembers absolutely nothing thanks to his amnesia from the blow he suffered. So, what the hell is the point of revenge if the other person doesn't remember a damn thing they did?

right cuz like when he finds out what he did in the novel anyways it’s after he’s suffered SO MUCH and he’s basically like destroyed and can’t forgive himself and just accepts being treated like trash… the story is just an exercise in misery :(

Well, it’s not like the amnesia removes the trauma the victim suffered. I read the whole novel and I’m still a Juyeon supporter. It’s not like Jiwook was actively trying to be a better person after he lost his memory. He was still lowkey sexually harassing Juyeon in the novel extra when he visited him after he hit his head.

So what are you trying to get at? That it can be justified or just that jiwook was still an asshole ?

That it is justified! Idrc what happens to guys who post csam and commit rape. Because that’s what he did. An asshole is someone who double dips at the World Cup watch party. Jiwook is a rapist and so it’s fitting that he meets his misery at the hands of another rapist. World peace.

Plus it’s not that Juyeon is an innocent angel either. He commits rape against Soohyuk by forcing him to have sex with Jiwook under duress. And Soohyuk in turn was about to pimp Jiwook out to “help him escape” after weeks of being a bystander to his abuse. Everyone is pretty trash but none of it would’ve happened if Jiwook had just left Juyeon the fuck alone.

Juyeon is an interesting character because the idea that he is doing all of this for justice and for his sick mother’s sake is challenged frequently in the text. It’s my personal belief that his motivations are mostly due to still having feelings for Jiwook entwined with justifiable anger and hurt at what Jiwook did to him. I am pretty pro-revenge, but Juyeon gets lost in the fucking sauce way too much for it to be straightforward revenge. Like I said, he abused someone who had nothing to do with his rape and would’ve been satisfied just keeping Jiwook as a pet. Crazy guy.

But I am sympathetic to him because people get very precious about a victim’s actions when they aren’t chaste, miserable, and content with being “defiled” or whatever pure bullshit. Obviously you should never commit rape, I should clarify. Though Juyeon had no other options if he wanted to mete out retribution. The justice system failed him, and with his mother incapacitated he had nobody to emotionally depend on. If he tortured or killed Jiwook, he’d go to jail, so he chose the one route that Jiwook would never report. But I also think it’s meaningful that Juyeon wasn’t out for revenge to begin with, he tried to befriend Jiwook again after he lost his memories because he was still soft for him. It wasn’t until he was goaded by Jiwook’s arch rival (who hasn’t appeared in the manhwa yet) and observed with his own eyes that Jiwook hadn’t changed from the selfish asshole who would rather rape him than admit his feelings for him that Juyeon decided to commit to his revenge to begin with.

even if i don’t necessarily agree (we are kind of opposites - i am pretty anti-revenge) i appreciate your nuanced opinion and explanation.

Thank you, I appreciate it a lot! I am pro-revenge, I’m crazy I guess. But I’m pro-survivor most importantly, which is why I’m against policing their anger towards their abusers. Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean that survivors who want to end the cycle are invalid. I think those people are incredibly strong. We just need to stop centering the abuser in these “forgive or not to forgive” conversations because it ain’t about them. It’s about what is most healing for the people who were hurt.

yeah you’re so right!! it’s a topic that came up in the survivor group i was in every so often, like, if we would want to see our abusers suffer or how so. i’m def not against all revenge, but we all kind of agreed we wouldn’t want what happened to us to happen to anyone else, even the perpetrators. but ik it’s… def different and more complicated than that for others, so even if i don’t understand it, i respect the view.
