I was honestly quite intrigued once I started reading, and I can't say this is completely unreadable or even "objectively bad*, but the way it drags on and on really bothers me...
Ryu is very unlikable to me. Not just morally, but as a character, he,—to me,—us very uninteresting. There's nothing particularly compelling about his personality. The mystery he had around him at the start was interesting to me initially—but it isn't enough to keep me hooked when neither is he further explored on a deeper level nor has any character growth. On top of that he's naturally unlikable. Paired with his lack of emotional presence, the intelligence I can feel the writers tried to project on him but that only comes out as out of touch at worse and hypocritical at best—he just makes for an annoying character.
The main character is also a bit disappointing... Not as shallow, as the story is told through his point of view—the least I expected was for him to be better fleshed out as a character. But he also seems quite surface level at times, specially emotionally. His anger isn't deep. Neither is his sadness, or happiness, or romantic feelings... I was just caught in a constant loop of expectation.
Just waiting for a stronger reaction or a deeper conflict. But honestly, this just feels tiring to read. A shame, because I'd expected quite a bit from this story originally.
Will be dropping it. Can't say I recommend it
