I love yaoi, i love sex but that's just rape. I want a story very smut and consensual
I love rape fantasies when it's in a very fantastical setting like omega world, or the story is PWP, it doesn't really feel icky because the setting is outrageous on itself.
But this story had the potential for a normal gay love story; you know, the kind where a hot mysterious guy falls in love and courts the innocent plain guy and we all swoon because it's a Cinderalle-like story; sticky sweet and sexy later on. BUUUUUUT.... we got to the sexy part first ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I'm not really outrageously angry about the dubious consent here, since it's a very common yaoi trope. But I get how the yaoi readers from before and now are shifting towards a more conscious mindset and calling out rape and how problematic it is as a plot device. At first I didn't really get it, but after educating myself about its implications and this shifting mindset, I realized it is actually for the good of enhancing the story and informing the readers about the dangers of this trope.
I agree with much of what you say. I've been reading manga for years, and yes, I already know most of the yaoi clichés. for a while I didn't care at all, while sometimes I really loved them. My real problem with what happened is that "rape" when a person is drugged or drunk is already so common in manga that it becomes annoying. I would have thought that the new creators would try to fix things, but the relationships seem to be getting worse. I know the difference between reality and fiction, but many children don't and I'm just amazed when someone says it wasn't rape just because they didn't say no. I would like some of these issues to be taken seriously. I'm here because I enjoy reading manga, no matter how many clichés it has, but I can't ignore everything that is simply toxic, and that depresses me. I wish this manga didn't go the way it did. Maybe the sequel will be better, sweeter and even nicer, but that doesn't mean that what happened should be considered normal. It's like saying that romantic triangles or cheating are necessary for the story. There are not. I prefer to read manga with healthier relationships.
I agree. Sometimes, for young fujoshis to read mangas with rape plot devices, they grow up not knowing the thin line when someone is borderline disrespecting them sexually because it's normalized in the amount of rape stories they've read -this is where the harm lies. Some may think this idea is absurd because they're not stupid to not know when someone is disrespecting them sexually, but this is in the same vein of physically abused women who thinks they're not ever going to be in a relationship with someone abusive until it finally happens to them and only realizes when the abuse is already done. This harm can also manifest as taking someone's SA experience lightly because they've seen rape plots as something okay.
That is why it is important to call out these kind of iffy representations in mangas and webtoon where half or majority of readers are young ones. So they are aware how harmful these kinds of things are irl and how it can possibly affect others too.
Something makes me believe that the author will end the manga by making Furuya Ace and Sawamura the team leader. It's just my opinion
That was actually the author’s original plan. He never planned to make the Act II and wanted to finish the series in the first act, but his publishers and fans wouldn’t let him go with it, so he made the second act. But the orig plan was to make Furuya the ace till the very end and Eijun never get to be the ace even once. Lmao. It’s really fcked up. Idk what’s going on in sensei’s head. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
