They used lots of oils. Like you said it’s weird. There were water sources of course but still sometimes they did not have the cleanest water to wash their hair with. Also some of them probably had curly or kinky hair which can be hard to maintain so having straight hair is usually better. Usually the upper class would have more wigs but still wigs were popular. Also Happy New Years as well!!
