I can't really explain, but I saw the movie "The sound of metal" and the hearing aids that he had, capture a lot of noise and he couldn't differ where the sounds came from, or even distinguish diferent sounds.

I think it was said she wears them because the people around become aware she's deaf and don't get angry at her when she doesn't reat to their voice.
