We can see it in the final chapter of season 2—he has a flashback of his loving family while hugging Aaron. I feel like he’s scared that the more he loves Aaron, the more it’ll hurt when he loses him too. On top of that, he's feeling guilty because of what his father did. I know he’s not in the right, but I honestly don't blame him
