I feel like this is a very roundabout and unnecessary way to confess. I'm more of the "just do it" type of person. Liking someone is simple, but we tend to overthink it and end up scaring ourselves. I'm not saying to take a big leap and outright confess. No, that's too much, especially if you're shy. I say try to find some common ground with him and build your (platonic) relationship up from there. And if and when you feel comfortable enough to confess, it won't be as hard.

I don't think that's a good way to do it. Since you say you're shy and awkward, maybe you should put yourself in situations that there's a chance you or him can start a convo. Like, if you guys have class together, sit near him rather than far away. It increases your chances of talking. If you're struggling on a problem given to you in class, ask the ppl around you, which happens to be him. Stuff like that. Put yourself in more exposure to him and find common ground like kajin said.

Or, I would say be friends with his friends and try to hang out with them when you have the chance. But that is sorta a low way to do it in my opinion. Bc you would've started out your friendship with that friend as a means to maneuver your way around a guy. I would not recommend making your friend talk to him bc it's just not a great way as a means to make friends. Plus, what if they end up liking each other?

But be brave and good luck! If you want good results, they (mostly) need to be worked for! Not everything comes so easily in life.

I'd say to find out their social media and try texting them online. It's easier for shy people since you don't need to actually face the person right away plus you get to know each other at the same time, so ask around to find out what it is then try texting him something like "hey, we're in the same class but we haven't really ever talked before so hi" and see how that goes (▰˘◡˘▰)

If I'm being honest, people who try to initiate a first conversation on social media are creepy, no matter their intentions. It's stalker-attitude and when I get messages like that, I never answer. So this may not be the best way.
