It's not unrealistic. After 18 years of marriage, my mom and dad divorced for the same reason and she brought him back home when he had stage 4 colon cancer (AND my step-dad was very supportive because he realy loves & understands my mom - he's just amazing like that). She cared for my dad all the way until we buried him 13 months later. Despite the pain someone causes you, there are some bonds that are difficult to break. Relationships are more complicated & nuanced than how you're oversimplifying it. I thought the author did a great job conveying something that is very difficult for most people to understand or accept.

Idk what's going on or how much is supposed to be accurate anyway. In the netflix one what drove him over the edge was the daughter dying but in this one it seems like he only has a son? I can't even get into this art style (〜￣△￣)〜
