I think he might be taking some type of drug to help him with his health, but it has some kind of side effects, this being one of them. Maybe it has smth to do with him being able to bring life, that's why usually the eye would come after the person had their first kid or smth like that. Also it kind of hints to this by Mush'nu asking him why he wasn't taking Tei instead of using the shaiwaa since it could be bad for him, but he then told him abt what happened when he tried to kiss Tei.
