Im really glad people can finally see how toxic Riftan truly is. He’s controlling and IS abusive. People hate to see it but maxi has suffered abuse at the hands of Riftan many a time both physical and (mainly) emotional.
Maxi is unfortunately the perfect sheltered victim yet she still sees things more logically and clearly than he does, and is willing to go through that hardship to come out better in the end, but Riftans selfish. He would prefer to throw their whole lives away not caring if this hurts maxi because HE doesn’t want to be away from her. I can understand he’s been through traumas as well, however it’s no excuse for his behaviour and complete dismissal of Maxi, her feelings and more importantly her thoughts.
