YEAAA i felt that too. I think Ryouichi loved him and wanted to spoil him. He let Issei does what he wants to do. Ryouichi in here was shown as a guy who’s obsessed with Issei. but Issei himself has a superiority complex, feeling as if he was controlling Ryouichi. He’s also obsessed with Ryouichi, thinking as if he was just a “defect product” of himself. Maybe he felt like Ryouichi was wrong in his head and Ryouichi couldn’t do anything without Issei. But in reality, Ryouichi is capable of doing anything he wants to do. it’s just that he doesn’t have the will to do so. He loves Issei that much. Issei on the other hand doesn’t know “love”. He asked Ryouichi to stay with him, quit his job and all that. He asked Ryouichi to stay with him forever. BUT, not as a “lover”. He still thinks that Ryouichi is his plaything or someone following his footsteps. eventho as a matter of fact, Ryouichi isn’t. Ryouichi may be even smarter, better than Issei himself.Ryouichi was holding back just for Issei. Ryouichi is himself, and not as a defect version of Issei. So, Ryouichi cried and said no. He couldn’t be with him forever, knowing the fact that Issei doesn’t think of him as a lover. So, I could say that Issei is the one who’s kinda messed up in his heads. This is just my opinion. Idk if it’s true but I think it’s like this
I can say a few more : Issei claimed that Ryouichi wanted to take his place and it's the truth. There are hints showing how much he wants to top him, (his creepy times) and I don't think it's limited to the sexual position.
Also, Issei's love is as much real. If he wants to control Ryouichi that bad, it's because he's scared to be left by him . By being the dominant one, he tries to prevent him for evolving (like men have done with women in the past... and are still doing in many areas) so that he won't be able to have desires for himself.
But Ryouichi's true desire is to be like Issei, the dominant one, and to control Issei (in order to not be left either, I suppose). So, they were hopeless. What the girlfriend said confirmed it, like you said Ryouichi was just taking the role he was assigned to but nobody is inferior by nature.
Edit, Oh, and the sex scene in chapter 5 shows that the only moment when they are "equal", is when they crush the cycle, when one of them leave. And, when they're smiling at each other in the church, after being told they looked to get along, it's the happy ending. I take it as an omen that they won't take a loop in the cycle again : they won't be lovers anymore but, they are finally able to stay at each other's side equally.
