obviously.. what i meant was for novel readers to elaborate on the differences between the novel and the manhwa, and how the novel apparently changes the way they see zhenya. just curious on how big of a difference there is for readers to still like zhenya and taekjoo together.

Just because he loves TJ by the end of it, he doesn't erase his past actions. Zhenya is still a rapist. I mean, someone can like a black flag, but I don't understand why they would defend him...

Nobody is defending Zhenya's actions. We're talking about a fictional character, not arguing that his behavior would be acceptable in real life. You can acknowledge he's a rapist and still find the character interesting.

What's funny is how much time you spend policing what strangers read. It's fiction. If you genuinely think enjoying a black flag character means supporting their actions in real life, that says more about your media literacy and ability to separate fiction from reality than it does about anyone else's morals.

That's exactly why people tell others to read the novel. The manhwa cuts out a lot of context and character dynamics. Nobody's saying the novel magically makes Zhenya innocent.

If anything, Taekjoo makes Zhenya suffer a lot in the novel. He doesn't just roll over and forgive him. He challenges him, rejects him, and constantly keeps him at arm's length. A huge part of their relationship is Zhenya desperately trying to earn even a fraction of Taekjoo's trust and failing repeatedly.

People who like them together usually aren't forgetting what Zhenya did.

They've just seen more of the consequences, the development, and the power shifts that the manhwa barely covers. Here's ur geniune explanation. Took time to genuinely reply, so go read the novel whenever u feel like it later on.

thanks for elaborating, i do appreciate it! i really did want to see someone share specific elements of the novel, not only making claims without any further explanation. i get that the story shouldn't be compared to real life.

the short answer is that people are convincing themselves he's not a bad person, the long answer is that people cannot accept the fact that characters can have flaws and want every couple to be a healthy "green flag" couple, i have read the novel many times and i can say that people are just genuinely coping when they try to make zhenya seem like a good person JUST because he became a better lover to taekjoo in the end, but they gotta accept the fact that zhenya and taekjoo are both flawed, neither of them are good people.. (spoilers ahead) even at the end of the novel (volume 10) taekjoo confronts zhenya about the past, how he raped him, beat him, kept him captive etc. but zhenya still didn't apologize or seem remorseful even tho he knew it was wrong, he even thought to himself that "it is all in the past now" so taekjoo would forget abt it or smth, but yeah that's what i think

I don't have a problem with liking problematic characters. I've been reading toxic/dark BL stories for years I understand there's a difference between reality and fiction. Girl you're fighting the air
